Hi, I've just picked up Tau and I'm looking for a good starting list for my local GW. I only need 250 points as a start and i'm trying to just use models that I already own to reach that value.

This is the list I have been thinking about today:

Cadre Fireblade - 60 pts

9 x Strike Team FW squad with DS8 Turret - 91 pts

10 x Strike Team FW squad with DS8 Turret - 100 pts

Total Cost: 251 Points

The list definitely lacks dedicated anti-armour but at this sort of points range I really don't expect to come up against anything I wont be able to glance to death or kill with the S7 missile pods.

Any thoughts or potential room for improvements? I only have access to 2 Start Collecting! boxes and a riptide at the moment (Because it looks so damn awesome!) but I can purchase other units if I really need to.

Thanks for having a look and any help will be greatly appreciated ,

Fishy.

At that level of points id say thats a pretty solid way to go, only alternative thing I can think of is swapping one fireteam for a dual missile or plasma/missils crisis suit but to be honest the strike teams good to keep the numbers up at that level.

In regards to going bigger the rest of the start collecting box and the riptide is ideal. If you can, magnetise your crisis suits weapns and support systems. I use 2x1mm neomydium (spelling might be wrong) disk magnets. its a little daunting to begin with but being able to swap weapons for variation at different points levels or themes is so good. Next part of the army I would reccommend is getting a pathfinder team. Use one of the crisis suits with cool armour/helmet bits as a commander. No point getting the coldstar kit unless you specifically want the coldstar suit as its quite expensive.

Thanks for your reply Bobug! Yeah I definitely considered including some suits because I really like the models themselves but leading into the magnetizing aspect I wont be building the suits until my magnets arrive so that I can do just what you've suggested haha I ordered 3x1 mm though as it seemed a better fit from YT videos I watched but we shall soon find out!

Yeah I'm definitely going to be taking your advice on the commander as I don't really feel like I'll be fielding 6 suits anytime soon anyway so thanks for that idea.

On pathfinders are they really superior to drones? I have no aversion to pathfinders but it's a general question .

Thanks for your time, Fishy.

Marker drones are by far more common and I think definitely better than pathfinders. They can move and still fire their markerlights too.

They might be a good option Noctem, especially because I'm not sure whether or not ill be using a lot of drones in my strike teams, thanks for your input!

Haha yes indeed all of my Tau will be Boba Fett inspired and will be similar to that picture, but there are some differences as im not completely happy with that version of them.

Glad someone got the reference though
