Can deathwatch veterans have both a bolter with special ammo and a shotgun? They're both listed as free swaps for weapons and you could swap a pistol for a bolter and a ccw for a shotgun.

Yes. You can have such a veteran.

No, you cannot fire both in the same shooting phase.

There is, however, a point to it: shoot the shotgun, then assault(good for the Vanguard and deathwatch vets formation); or shoot the bolter when too far away to reasonably assault anyway.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Apparently you can't do this in the Imperial agents (or whatever it's called) book, though. Does that trump the main codex since it's more recent?

Different codex that doesn't replace it, so no. Just like the Dreadnought stats and options didn't perculate from Codex:SM to Blood Angels and Space Wolves without an errata.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

You cannot, they're two separate and equally valid entries.
As a point of humor, though: The IA book only says that you have to take a Troops choice with the Deathwatch faction in its listed detachment, so if you have both IA and Deathwatch, you could actually take a Troops choice from the Deathwatch book, for use in the IA detachment.

I have equipped my Stalker Pattern Boltgun Veterans with a regular Boltgun for their other weapon. That way they can drop in with the Black Spear Strike Force, fire their regular Boltguns on the drop turn, and then proceed to use their Stalker Pattern Boltguns on subsequent turns.

In answer to the question, yes you can do this. It is the way Codex: Space Marines Bike Squads can take their Special Weapons. I am afraid that GW will take the option away, which is crap. I love my Boltgun/Shotgun combos.

Hm. I've heard they removed inquisitorial servo sculls in the old digital book after the imperial agents. Might do the same thing to deathwatch.
