So, I got a little time and inspiration. this is my new command squad for my rough rider army. They are sculpted on triceratops that are the same size as a regular horse (well maybe closer to like 24mm) Anyway, here are a few of them in progress. I have far more in my gallery, which can be found here:

No, they will not have boobie armor, I just do that to fill out the right dimension. Compare the one with her carapace to the one without. Ok a few pics.

Okay, let me know what you think!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

I think that is pretty neat. Keep on living the dream - I wish I could sculpt something like that!

Interested to see where you take this. Is there a prehistoric theme to the rest of your army?

I have some ideas of mixing heavier mounts in with horses is all, so no real dinosaur theme sadly. I do have a set of RR's on cold ones.

Posting so I can follow thread and I cant find the follow thread button. On topic very nice, if you want a real crisp edge if you wait for the greenstuff to harden longer it gives a more cut rather then pressed in look.

I need to go to work every day.

Here is an update. The captain has received her weapon (a converted power lance) a cloak (why not?) and her arms are in process. Also, I have added a curved sword to the back of her saddle as her CC weapon. Two of her command squad continue in progress, but no pics yet. (Anyone recognize that sword bit? is that a chaos warrior thing? I could use more) I lack the talent for good faces, so ordered some from Statuesque Miniatures, won't arrive for two weeks or so, so these remain headless. I will be starting my Ogrynn riders sometime next week, bits are due in five days.
@ Ogrechubs: Thanks for the tip, this sculpting is a serious learning process. Much appreciated.
Okay, Pics.

Update. My champion for command squad (she will have her sword back about to chop heads) and medic. Below is my first Ogrynn dino rider. Few picks just showing a dino and the work on the tack and saddle. The other is building. Yes, that is a really old beaky marine body from that 80's set where you got 30 in a box for nothing. Have a ton of those laying around, so decided to save some GS by using him as filler. Anyway pics.
Champion wire base.

Medic wire.

Ok dino and gear:

let me know what you think. I still worry the dinosaurs are too cheesy.

Have you considered resculpting the eyes of the dinosaurs so they are more forward facing and heavier browed (similar to orc boars)?

I saw something similar done for an elephant: war mammoth conversion and it really helped warhammerify the model.

Nareik I hadn't thought about the dinosaurs at all, but I like your idea. Not sure I have the skill, but it is definitely something to think about, thanks.
Anyway, here is the next update. The Captain from the command squad and one of her guardsmen. I made the reins by bodging together parts of WoC flail/morning star arms. I really like the way it came out, although are they practical??? No chance.
Hey, a shout out to Statuesque Minis. The heads are from their Veterans line (heroic scale if anyone needs to know). They got my order here fast, and they look great! Not bad for shipping from the UK all the way to California in the middle of a massive series of storms!
Here's pics.

Okay, finally an update. My apologies for the delay, big storms here and I am on contract to the road dept as an engineer...busy busy. Anyway, here is my Ogrynn Rough rider Sculpt #2. I gave this guy an oversized hunting lance (which may be too big...) I sculpted his chest and back to be shirtless. Yeah, I know...but he's an Ogrynn, and the real models have t-shirts anyway. He has a lot of gear on his mount, including some ale, bedrolls, a huge club for CC etc. I like him, came out well, but sheesh, how I'm ever going to paint him is a mystery...Let me know what you think.

Okay, let me know what you think!

I think that middle one's a pentaceratops, not a triceratops. The other two... anchiceratops? But very nice work on all of them.

Anyone recognize that sword bit? is that a chaos warrior thing? I could use more.

Looks like a spearhead from the previous generation of skaven clanrats. (The 'monkey-dogs') There are still a lot of them being sold on UK ebay; dunno what it's like on US ebay.

I still worry the dinosaurs are too cheesy.

Heck no. They're great. I have a bunch for some 6mm and 28mm projects, myself.

In fact, one thing I think that would make them cheesy...

warhammerify

No offence intended, personal opinion and all that, but... nnyeh.

Hey, a shout out to Statuesque Minis.

They're great, aren't they? The heads go very well with GW minis. Nice use of them here.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Thanks for the reply Vermis! Yeah when I bought them I saw all the different -atops...so got some variety. My latin is now 3 decades old sadly...
Bit info is useful thanks! I'll keep looking! I really thought those were a chaos warrior extra swords or something.
One more Ogrynn to go, and 3 command squad figures about 75% done.
