There's an upcoming tournament being organized by a few buddies of mine which they insisted I play in. The problem is that up until now I've mostly just painted and have little experience with AoS in general outside of the occasional friendly game at the local GW. I was hoping that someone more experienced could look over this list and let me know what you think. Any advice in regards to tactics for the AoS in general and for Dwarves in particular would also be greatly appreciated.

1x runelord: 80

1x30 quarellers: 360

1x10 quarellers: 120

3x10 warriors: 300

2x10 irondrakes: 440

1x Grimm Burloksson: 100

2x cannon: 360

3x gyrocopter/bomber: 240

I know that the gyro's probably aren't the best choice but they seem fun to play with, fun to paint, and will add just a touch of speed to an otherwise extremely slow army.

I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

That list seems pretty good to me, and definitely fun to play. However you asked for tournament critique so here goes.

If you want little tweaks to the current list: I would almost never take 10 quarrellers over 10 thunderers (i say almost because there have been times when the increased range made sense over the decreased stats). Unless you know in advance about missions where you would want the three copters I would drop one of them for a second runelord. Because (i think) dispossessed are the only faction that can stack increased rend, so i try to maximize that when possible.

If you are looking for some bigger changes, i would propose the following list:

2x runelord: 160

1x Dispossessed clan throng: 60

1x Ungrim Ironfist: 100*

1x30 quarellers: 360*

1x20 thunderers: 240*

1x10 Hammerers: 200*

2x10 warriors: 200*

1x10 Long beards: 140*

1x Grimm Burloksson: 100

2x cannon: 360

1x gyrocopter/bomber: 80

In my experience the Dispossessed formations are always worth taking, if you can. With the increased rend most every hit will go all the way through so rerolling 1s to hit from formation and to wound from the long beards makes a big difference.

As for tactics, we Duardin are slow, but we can also take some control over the engagements (like who is engaged when and by which enemy unit). Make sure that the unit being charged has shields up, and make sure you have you have a unit ready to counter charge. It is probably worth sacrificing a unit of warriors (running then being charged with shields down) if that means you will get a full force, buffed, hammerer attack on the unit you want. I usually spread my warriors in a big front line to protect the units (thunderers, hammerers, heroes, etc.) behind. Then use my quarrelers to bubble wrap the artillery. The hammerers sound sturdy because of their 4+ save but in truth the 5+ rerolling of warriors and ranged troops is better. Shooting is a big problem because we never get to reroll those saves. So it could be worth having your artillery ignore a scary looking meele unit to take out their shooting unit first. Obviously any tactic will be more or less useful depending on the scenario, but these are the things i try to keep in mind. Best of luck in the tournament! There arent a lot of active duardin threads so i hope you will let us know what you end up choosing and letting us know how the tournament goes and if you learn anything tactic or selection-wise from it!

A few things imo

Playing 2000 points id run 3 cannons min. Also you may want to consider the hounds to keep your war machines safe.

Id drop the iron drakes and gyros.

Run min 2 rune lords

take bugman and a big unit of quarrlers

Miners are great also

id only run 3 x 10 warriors as your core units give them great weapons and shields they will be your cannon fodder/blockers/point holders.

I posted a dispossessed list some time ago check it out you may like it... for cometititveness
