Hey, so this is my first time posting, I'm pretty that, since this is a rules-related question, I'm posting in the right place, though I apologize in advance if this has been discussed (I wasn't able to find it in a search, if so).

So, the promotional images of the Deathwatch Black Shield show him rocking a power sword in each hand. My question is, if you were to pay for this load-out by replacing his bolter (rather than his close combat weapon) with a power sword, thus giving him a power sword and an extra CCW, wouldn't all of his close combat attacks then use the weapon stats profile for a power sword? In other words, would it not be unnecessary to pay the points cost for two power swords in order to give him the extra attack one gets from having two melee weapons?

Thanks for your time and consideration, again, if thread is rehashing old territory I apologize, and I'd be grateful if anyone could link me to where it's been discussed before.

Yes, paying for 2 power swords is rather pointless.

You only ever attack with 1 weapon, and gain the bonus attack with power sword and ccw.

Although, paying for 2 power weapons is not completely useless; so long as they are 2 different power weapons( say, a sword and an axe).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Ah, ok. So you WOULD have to actually pay out for an extra power sword? In that case it seems like a much better choice to use those points for one of the premium pistols (grav, plasma, etc.) in order to get an extra attack and still have some ranged capability

No. You only need to pay for a second power weapon if its a stave/maul, spear, or axe. If its a sword then theres no need

Ok, great. That's what I was trying to get at in my original question. If you're replacing the bolter with the power sword and keeping the CCW in order to get the extra attack with the power sword profile that makes the choice much more sensible, especially with the extra cost you've got to pay out to upgrade to a Black Shield.

Thanks very much for clearing that up

Could always just model it with two swords while only paying for one, it will only up against Jain Zarr, no?

You would also run into an issue with eldar and their disarm special rule
