Hello,
I am fairly new to Space Wolves and I'm hoping some people could provide me some insight. I'm building a wolf lord for my HQ, and I'm trying to decide on his weapons load out. He's currently riding a thunderwolf, but I'm trying to decide between two weapon load outs:
- Load Out 1: Fangsword of the Ice Wolf and Black Death - I lose the extra attack for having two weapons but gain a ranged option and helfrost options in both ranged and melee
- Loadout 2: Wolf Claw and Power Fist - I gain the extra attack, gain shred when using the claw, lose my ranged option but have an option to deal with vehicles if needed.
Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Black Death is rad on a Wolf Lord. While the range option is cute as it does have Helfrost, it won't likely do anything.
So save the points and grab a Storm Shield instead.

But why a storm shield over something like runic armor? (Not contradicting, just curious of the choice)

You can still take Runic Armor unless the Space Wolves codex is just that badly written. Either way, a constant 3++ is better than 2+/6++.

But the Wolf Lord has a Belt of Russ that gives 4++, So with Runic Armour he'd had 2+/4++ so why waste a bunch of points by increasing the invul by 1?

So the belt giving a 4++ invlun and taking the claw/fist seems pretty solid, by what I am getting from the great feedback here?

It isn't a bunch of points. The jump from 4++ to 3++ will be significant once you face something with AP2. Plus with the Black Death he's got rampage essentially, which makes up for any lost attack he'd get with a Pistol (which is only one).

my prefered loadout is Runic Armour, Wolf Claw, Thunder Hammer (looks cooler than a fist) and the Helm of Durfast...because with no re-roll to hit it happens way too often that I would only have 1-3 hits out of 7 attacks that hit on 3+, but with a re-roll I tend to hit 6-7 times
I really like the flexibility to choose between I5 or Str10/AP2.
And don't forget the grenades as ranged option even when the pistol was replaced.
