Is there a clever combo to be engineered with grav chute Scions arriving with the help of Inquisition Mystics? Both the Scions and the Inquisition Warlord traits have some potential to modify reserve rolls, and the Inquisition detachment could stack those traits to increase the odds. The Inquisition could also provide Prescience, which stacks nicely with some of the Scions orders. With relatively inexpensive shooty options from the Scions list and pretty good choppy ones from the Inquisition list, could you play a fairly ambitious board control and range management game, or does it just get too complex with layers of traits, orders, psychic phase actions, and special rules?

I run a similar list myself.. or at least I used to.

The lack of servo skulls in Imperial Agents really knocked it, as before if you rolled the grav chute commando warlord trait in the scion book and had servo skulls everywhere your scions arrived where you wanted them too as the warlord trait knocked a d6 off of scatter and the servo skull reduced it by a further d6 so you rolled a scatter and placed them where you wanted them anyway.. now you need mystics.

The scions guns are mainly short ranged so the mystics would need to be moved up the field and protected from any ap5 shots as they would drop relatively easy..

A list I ran the other day involved two inquisitors, a full cad of scions, 4 units in reserve and 4 units on the board (2 in tauroxes) the new battle conclave formation for SoB from Imperial Agents (where an inquisitor went for rad grenades if they got in combat), the force worked somewhat, its fairly mobile and with the reserves you always have a threat coming from above..

But after that game I think my scions are going to be played as veterans with carapace armour as I haven't really had much success with them as a unique force unfortunately, I am going to keep trying, I just need to the learn them and how an inquisitor can be played for fluff and competitively.

Accept any challenge, No matter the odds

Rumor is that the old Inquisition Only codex is still valid, so if you wanted to run the servo skulls you theoretically could.

From a fluffy standpoint such a thing seems excellent, I personally painted up my own Scions as "Inquisition Stormtroopers." Overall non-scattering deep striking Scions could be quite useful, especially given that they do not care about difficult/dangerous terrain.

As for actual use, I've personally found Imperial Guard Veterans to be a little more points efficient. But... that's not really relevant here so I'll leave it there.

I do enjoy using my Scions as a fun unit.

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!

*Increases Game Point Limit by 100*: Tau get two Crisis Suits and a Firewarrior. Imperial Guard get two infantry companies, artillery support, and APCs.
