Just got back into 40k after a couple year break and was looking into new lists for my self and brother to play with our main armys will be dark angels and chaos for now since we got the older version of the dark vengeance box set I also have some models left over from before I left but not many that are still usable due to bad condition (was horrible painter back then and even when I stripped some they aren't the best to look at) so I gave most of them over to chaos.

now I didn't go through all my random bits I did glance though and the models I can use for da are:

The dark vengeance box set
5 extra termys and a termy hq (mid conversion so could make it libby or chappy)
5 sniper scouts with camo cloaks
a 5 man devastator squad with an extra guy I had laying around equppied 2 plasma cannon 1 lascannon 1 Heavy bolter
1 Attack bike
3 extra bike bases that I'm thinking of trying to convert bikes for(doubt itll work out though)
5 man vet squad with no arms atm
3 rhinos that i could play as razorbacks easy enough
and an empty bike that I'm convert into a libby or chappy on bike
I also have a couple dreadnaughts but they don't seem all that great w/o drop pods or and I don't have the long range varients
also have a few ml guys i think I can salvage
I'm mainly looking for 1k but would like it to be a solid core to build open for larger games in the future
\
My 1k idea was something like
lions blade strike force
battle demi company
chaplain on bike

5 man tact with las cannon

5 man tact with ml

5 man tact with ml
rhino

5 man assault 2 plasma pistol
rhino

5 man devastator 4 plasma cannon

ravenwing attack squadron

Ravenwing landspeeder with a multi melta

6 ravenwing bike plus attack bike with mm and 2 plasma guns

that would come to 985 if my math is right witch coulp go into some dozerblads on rhinos or other upgrades elsewhere
and this way I'd only have to buy the landspeeder (witch i would get the box that has 3 bikes and attak bike to replace older crap version as well)

Lions blade needs two battle demi companies. You get transports for free then.

Plasmapistols arent worth it. I usually run assault with 2x flamer, as flamers rarely dissapoint (automatical hits are awesome).

Also, its usually better to keep the heavy guns in devestator squads. A single heavy gun wont do much, and tacticals should be out there grabbing objectives. The missions from the rulebook require you to be mobile!

Plasmacannons are ok, but i prefer good old lascannons, multimeltas or gravcannons for my devastators.

Plasmaguns on the bikes: try not to mix roles in squads. With an attack bike with mm they should be using meltas.

What about this:

***Combined arms detatchment:

Interogator chappy, bike, mace of redemtion

Tactical squad, plasmagun, rhino
Tactical squad, plasmagun, rhino

Dev squad, 2 lascannon, rhino
Dev squad, 2 lascannon, rhino

***RW attack squadron:

5 bikes, 2 melta, meltabombs + attack bike with mm

Landspeeder with 2 mms

The biggest problem I see with that is i don't have the extra rhinos or lascannons for the dev squad I could probally work out something with the meltaguns on bikes though even though the ones I have are already modeled with plasmaguns

and the bike squad I had planned on combat squading so the attack bike would be on its own and 2 3 man squads of bikes would do what they wanted sepretly one with the chappy

thanks for the input though I don't know much about the current missions as I don't have the most current rule book yet only the older dark vengeance copy so I thought the gun line with a few mobile units would have worked well

lions blade confused me I thought the extra bs on overwatch would be nice for the more shooty army incase i was assaulted
i do agree that 2 battle demis deffintly make it awesome just thought it was ok with one

The dark vengeance book is the current rulebook. I strongly suggest taking a look at the missions. The game is much more fun if some movement is involved.

Also start with what youve got (we all do that :-)). Take that list as a suggestion what you could buy next.

Keep in mind though that currently the ravenwing black knights are the top unit in our codex, so if you like bikes one or two boxes can never hurt.

Just look at their points: they cost as much as a standard biker with plasmagun, but they got a much better gun mounted on their bikes, have better stats, better rules, corvus hammers (and a second melee weapon) AND they look cool

Dark Vengeance was sold in both 6th and 7th, so it's quite possible he has the 6th edition rulebook.

However, the 6 missions in that book are still in the current (7th) rulebook (now called Eternal War missions), he just won't have the Maelstrom missions (which are the ones with the deck of cards).

Neither was I until recently witch made watching battle reports confusing the rule book that comes with the kill team box is current right? want to try out kill team anyway so if i get the main game rules kill team rules and a tac squad out of it it is so worth it (Plus the tau where one of my old armys so wouldn't mind a few extra if i ever get back into them)

Yes, the rulebook in Kill Team is the 7th edition book.

Actually I think the kill team book is the one i am using, too ;-)

I was wondering why there was a raven guard guy on it, not a dark angel...
