This year, I have decided to make a blog of stuff that I'm working on. Last year, I completed several terrain pieces, a handfull of D&D minis, and knocked off a random assortment of HH Imperial Fists, Black Templars, Imperial Guard, Chaos Space Marine, and 1 fething Space Wolf. Perhaps if I take pictures as I go, it might motivate me to focus on something and get it done

So, for Christmas, I got this dude. This is now waiting for the humidity in Chicago to drop below fething 65%. Forecast looks good for this happening on Wednesday or Thursday. Fingers Crossed!

The Plan:

I watched Duncon (Duncin, Dunkin', Dunkirkin?) paint this fether on the GW How to Paint Warhammer 40K gak and Stuff YouTube feed. He primed the big boy separately from his armor pieces. I liked that idea, so I'll be doing the same.

Sub Assemblies:

The big dude.

Additionally, I have to decide on dudes to take with me on business trips. I have a small BattleFoam hobby bag that fits in my large suitcase. It can hold a handful of minis, paints, brushes, and my magnification visor. I travel 30-40 times per year, and I will make every effort to do more hobbying on my trips.

Available for this, I have, in order of preference:

A handful of Crimson Fists that I can mix with my 30k Imperial Fists to fill out a Gladius Strike Force
Unassembled box of Prospero Burns that will be the start of my Thousand Sons army once the FW book comes out.
Black Templar (Terminators and assault marines, mostly)
Chaos Space Marines (Deciples of Horus that I'll eventually run with my Thousand Sons as some sort of Chaos Battle Company, or whatever they're called.)

A Kronk blog? I was expecting more booze and debauchery. I guess you just started, we’ll see how it turns out.

Nice Magnus. Looking forward to seeing you paint.

Progress!

I am following the WarHammer TV How to Paint gak and Make it Look Cool and gak Guide to Magnus the Red.

Here is after the Red Basecoat, followed by different red dry brush, followed by different red wash!

And here is that same different red dry brush again! Yay, I'm doing stuff!

Good start on Magnus. Are you going to do progressive highlights to make the skin lighter?

I collect:

Grand alliance death (whole alliance)

Stormcast eternals

Slaves to Darkness - currently Nurgle but may expand to undivided.

A little bit lighter on the hands and face. I'll wait until the armor is on before I do.

Progress from Sunday!

Wings!

Hair! Fabulous! Basecoat and Wash, before highlights.

Base Coat on Tabbards.

I had to put Magnus on hold this past week. My AdptiCon army was short on points so I bought a Shield Generator!

You meant the blue one in this picture? That's just my dry brush pallet. I just gob on whatever paint I need when I'm drybrushing. Before magnus, I only used drybrush on wood, fur, and terrain/bases. I'll take a picture of my wet pallet on my next update!

Magnus has been fun. I'm ready to get back to him, now.

Sadly, this is the only picture of the Space Wolf I have. It was from the Prospero box set and I sent him to a friend that plays space wolves after it was complete.

Yep! The Agrellan Earth? Then a dark wash and a few dry brushes.

I painted him in assemblies: his head, backpack, bolter, and the rest.

I promise I'll get back to Magnus. However, at AdeptiCon, I picked up some fun little terrain bits, so I'm knocking them out.

Finished the big guy! I need a better camera.

The base is a Secret Weapon miniatures base with the Secret Weapon miniature's snow stuff. It's crushed glass and glue. Goes great on cake.

I have been doing a lot of terrain. 8th edition has made me excited to play 40k again.

Rusty Pipes. That was my band name. We had 4 bagpipe players and a harpist.

Mysterious containers! What's in them? Probably pr0n...

The GW Terrain kits are fun to kitbash. I bought the Imperial Sector at GenCon 2016 for a song and finally put it to use. I had a few other buildings already and bought a bunch of bits (mostly floors) from that guy that sells bits at GenCon and AdeptiCon. Toledo Games? dunno. I wanted some larger pieces for my table. I have a few more already built not shown here.

Some Objective Markers. I got these at AdeptiCon 2017. I can't recall the vendor, but these are laser cut wood. The bottles came with those containment kits. I put in a few reaper minis from my Bones I and Bones II collection, and a pink horror I got from somewhere.

I really like the Necron ones. Easy to assemble and paint.

For the Star Wars Imperial Assault from FFG. I painted these for a buddy that owns the game for his birthday. He's a good GM.

Thanks, Polo-Loco!

Here are some D&D minis for Friday night gaming.

First up is Reaper's Stone Golem. It's from Bones I or II. Dunno...

Here is the "FREE" mini that came with White Dwarf 1.

My Elven Cleric with a bow. I've always been a trend-setter. Reaper Bones.

Female Barbarian with BAS. Also a Reaper Bones.

Half-Ork ranger with 2 axes. Originally, this mini had a sword and dagger. I cut off his hands like he stole something and then attached a pair of axes and hands from an OLD Chaos Knights kit I still have bits from. Otherwise, Reaper Bones.

A gnoll named gnort. Reaper Bones.

Priming is a pain. I no longer spray prime bones minis. I wash them with simple green to remove the mold release agent that seems to coat the minis and mount the mini on a wine cork. If you touch/handle the mini too much, the paint on primer rubs off a bit.

It's hit or miss. Washing helps tremendously in my experience. It's not horrible, but they aren't as great to paint as the metal minis. Also, once done and matte sealed, I have yet to have a problem with paint coming off and they get handled a bunch when we play.
