Does anyone have any pictures of their legion dreadnoughts? Castraferrum only. I'm thinking of building some and wondered how others had converted them to be more 30k looking I.e. less ornate.
What do people run them with? I'd like some Choom on them because death rays, but double volkite is probably a bit silly. Assuming a talon of three, at least one with volkite, how would you equip them? How are people making volkite arms, contemptor ones stuck onto normal shoulders?

Maybe three with ranged and melee and a cortus to cover them with volkite? Like how you add a dual kheres to take down ariel threats for your contemptors.

I think the OP's question is more aimed at how to model the 40k style boxnought to look more 30k-ish, and to support weapons like Volkite Culverins.
As for an answer, sadly I havn't seen that particular example anywhere myself.
What legion Would these dreadnoughts be for? Some of Forge world's MKIV Chapter/Traitor Legion dreadnought bodies could easily be used in 30k as they lack Chaos Stars or god sigils. I mean aside from the humungous tyranid on top, the Ultramarines one is good to go!

Freakishmade a good suggestion for the actual dreadnought bodies. As for weapons you'll want to search FW and find what looks like the right size and get chopping.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)
2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)
Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan! |

A bit of both really, modelling ideas and some tactical advice. I'm guessing most people just run contemptors or cortus talons, but as I have spare castraferrums I'd like to use some in the legion.
I'm running Iron Hands, so no flashy ven dread from FW unfortunately.

IMHO converting castaferums isn't hard - get rid of the aquila and other imperial things like purety seals and you've got what you wanted. But I think Contemptors are better for IH, especialy since your Primarch gives everything with AV13+ IWD. But if you go for cheap - go for castaferums.

I totally missed that with Ferrus, although I might not always be running him. If I didn't have some lying around I would have gone for the FW ironclad model as that's quite functional.

I'm working on a Castraferrum dreadnought for 30K. I've given it a plain sarcophagus lid with some rivets and a replaced the underslung bolter on the close combat arm with a Contemptor style weapon that fires through the hand. Not as good looking as a Contemptor, but it works better as a Legion dread than the standard 40K one does.

Just use a dremel or something similar to shave off any nice imperial bits and peices and i used some spares to turn the spare MM from the contemptor i got in BaC into a more 30k looking arm for the normal dready
