With the new year, 6 members of my gaming group are willing to participate with the goal being 2000 point painted armies. Painting spectrum is all over, one guy is attempting to paint his first army while several others are on their 6th to 7th army. First stage is 2 months long to get 500 points built and painted, with the limit increasing by 250 points each month. I can see problems arising a few months in with some of the newer guys losing interest or not being able to keep up with the painting. So I wanted to reach out and get some advice from any of you that have hosted or participated in these types of events. Do you have any stories or advice? What can I do to keep players interested?

I was also thinking of a scoring system to promote participation and painting. Winning games will still help, but wont be the sole determinate of the winner. Still working out the details...

I'd genuinely make it shorter. 300pt start, increase by 300pt per month, then limit it to 1500.

5 Points for a win.
1 point for tabletop standard painted.
1 point for being well based.
1 point for cool conversions or kit bashings.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

At our current rate, it would take 8 months to reach the finish. I think I'll cut it down to 6 months. I could see people losing interest if it took too long.

I like the points for good basing and conversions/kit bashing, but I'm trying to take a bit of emphasis off just winning games. This group will go net list and fast. I'm already having to fight them off bringing formations, forgeworld, and titans at 500 points.

So maybe... +2 win, +1 TT standard, +1 well based, +1 Conversion, +1 for participation, - 2 for TFG
