Just got another best sportsman award at our New Year's tournament (was a 1500 point CAD only game, ran mostly mech guard and won 2 of 4 games), $65 of store credit. I'm torn between what to add to my army right now, so figured I'd turn to you guys for a recommendation.

Right now, I've got an even mix of guard stuff:
2 magnetized russes (standard, although I'm building punisher cannons)
3 chimeras
wyvern
deathstrike
3 bullgryn squad
2 commissars (1 power fist and bolter, one sword and pistol) and Yarrick
3 lascannons and 2 autocannons
80 some guardsmen w/ 6 flamers, 2 heavy flamers, 2 plasma, 5 melta, 2 sniper, 2 grenade launcher
2 command squads
4 psykers
15 scions
maybe something I'm forgetting

If you're looking to be more competitive, another Wyvern won't hurt. If not, Vendettas are great. Russ Punishers are also good, with Pask.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

I've gone rough riders as you put them at the top of your want list - I'm a firm believer of going for what you like over what is competative

Currently working on a Hive World Imperial Guard 'Codex' - You can find the WIP here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/711392.page

Wyvern is helpful.
I would strongly suggest mixing in some heavy weapon autocannons in with the guard.
Take a look at Sentinels with the plasma cannons: they are really handy and cheap on points.
I get good use of the "Exterminator" Russ: 4 str 7 shots with re-rolls and full use of the sponsons: makes good anti-aircraft in a pinch.
Some psychers may be needed or at least some advisor/retinue guys like "Master of Ordinance".
Vendetta can give a fair bit of flexibility with 3 twin linked lascannons which should kill pretty much any aircraft or tank.

I think I listed these in order of preference.

I'm a bit of a tank head, but ended up choosing Valk - it looks you more than enough ground vehicles at the moment, the Valk will bring in some aerial support and deep-striking ability for some of your troops.

Also, last time I looked, rough rider models were no longer available on the GW site...

It never ends well

As in the poll, I plan on combining either cold ones or outriders with standard cadians to build them. Would require two kits of course, but worth it for some awesome models.
