I am starting in an escalation league and need some ideas for a list.

I am thinking maybe

5 Rubric 150
1 Exalted Sorcerer 160
2 units of Tzangor 140
1 unit of Cultists 50

That's exactly 500 but maybe I could drop the cultists to go shopping for buffs?

Also there could be some use from using some other CSM codex guys like Oblits or Helbrutes but I'm not sure.

Any advice?

Wow. One thing that's really really difficult for the Thousand Sons to do is small points sizes.

You can try 2 Sorcerers instead of the single Exhalted. Upgrade both Sorcerers to ML2 and MoT.

The you have just enough points for 2 min squads of rubrics.

Quite intimidating to bring just 12 T4 models, but you do have 6+d6 warp charge dice, not too bad in 500pts.

I want to say get a Helbrute simply because other 500 point armies are going to have a hard time with him. But I really have a hard time understanding the mechanics of this list. The fact there's only one Sorcerer makes me think your opponents are going to focus on him above all else.
