I know that russes that shoot themselves (which shouldn't be able to happen) hit front armor because you measure from the barrel, which extends past the front of the tank. Going from the direction of the shot to your tank means if you're aiming forward you hit front armor.
What happens when you're throwing a demolition charge? The origin of the blast comes from the top of the tank (firing points are the rear hatch or turret hatch depending on who you talk to, it only says "top hatch"), so if it scatters back onto the tank what facing does it hit? If the center of the blast is on the ground in front of it does it hit front armor? Or does it function like barrage, hitting side armor? And what about if it perfectly scatters back to hit the hatch? Since you're aiming forward and it scatters back does it hit front armor, or does it hit rear since that's what it's closer to, or does it hit sides like barrage?
We've generally ruled that it hits whatever side you were originally aiming for, since it's not a barrage, but I'm second guessing it. As much as I'd like to not blow myself up don't want to break the rules either.
If there's no definitive ruling that I'm missing we'll continue playing it as we do.

You always hit the side the shot is conning from. So I'd say the direction you tossing the charge from.
Ps..... If you tossing charges out of a hatch your chimera is to close to the enemy

That doesn't answer anything. The charge comes from the top of the tank, that's not a side.

You are right. the rules do cover this, but in a weird way. They clearly say the vehicle is hit on the side facing the shooter (page 75). In this case the shooter is on top of the vehicle, so by the rules the charge should hit the top of the vehicle. However, I cannot find where it says anything (besides barrage, which covers weapons that can fire indirect. since the demo charge and the grenade rules do not list them as indirect, I don't think it applies) about what the top armor on a vehicle is (rear armor sort of make sense). This means, I haven't found a rule answer for you (I also admit I am not a rules lawyer). My group would use the armor value of the vehicle facing the blast marker's aim point. We would probably also accept that the rear armor of a vehicle represents its top deck armor (which is almost always far weaker in real world tanks)
Best I got. I am going into the realm of thrown demo charges soon as well...remember the old rule (was it in fantasy) where things could only scatter a maximum of half the distance they were fired or thrown? Guess that was too much math for the newer streamlined rules. So now we have tanks that can fire a shell backwards out the barrel...

I personally love my guardsmen that tries to throw a grenade 6" and it lands 3" behind him (must have butter fingers) or the macho man randy savage that throws a grenade twice their max range.

Shouldn't be able to scatter that far out of its firing arc if you ask me, just seems ridiculous.

Which direction did you try to throw the demo charge in? If it scattered back from the direction you threw it to hit the vehicle, I'd say use the armor on the side you tried to throw it. It's not strict RAW, but I don't think there's any strict RAW to cover it.

Another way I'd do it is, the center of the template is never going ti be exactly centered on the vehicle. Therfore I've always gone with which ever armor facing the center of the template is closest to.
Again it's one of those things there is no right answer to

I don't think there is an exact rule as to how the handle this (that I am aware of, or it would follow general shooting rules. The side that would get hit, is the side the shot came from. In this case, I personally would just look at where you intended to throw the charge and draw a straight line to where it scattered, wherever the line touches is what side of the vesical is hit.
