Heya, need some input here. Playing against a Genesteeler Cult army on Saturday, and I decided to try this list out and see how it goes, never played the GSC before, and my opponent has never fielded them against any1 else yet so we'll most likely make a few errors, but it's just a non competetive fun game between friends so w/e
Anyway, my list are as follows:


: Combined Arms Detachment (Primary Detachment) (31#, 620 pts)
1 The Emperor's Champion ,
9 Crusader Squad , Flamer + Heavy Bolter
1 Sword Brother , BP + CS
9 Crusader Squad , Flamer + Heavy Bolter
1 Sword Brother , BP + CS
9 Crusader Squad (Troops) [BT] , 126 pts = 9 * 14
1 Sword Brother [BT] , Bp + CS

: Allied Detachment
1 Vulkan He'stan (HQ) [SA]
9 Tactical Squad (Troops) [SA] , Flamer 5 + Missile Launcher
1 Sergeant [SA] , Power Fist + Combi-Flamer
9 Tactical Squad (Troops) [SA] , Flamer + Missile Launcher
1 Sergeant [SA] , Power Fist + Combi-Flamer

I can make some adjustments, got plenty of BT models both with bolters and CC weapons, some bikes, rhinos and a Command squad with apothecary and other goodies. I'd be hard pressed to squeeze any of that in though. As for my Salamanders allied detachment, that's pretty much all I have model wise, save a cpl of centurions and a psyker. And the reason I bring them are for the awesomeness that is flamers Any advice/input is greatly appreciated

I'm assuming you dont know exactly what the GSC list looks like? For example, are they bringing Russ'?

Assuming its going to be a typical horde list I think you look pretty good with Flamers, HBs, and MLs (for Frag). I'd only consider using 5man squads allowing you to field more dedicated units, e.g. a fire support vs combat squads should be equipped very differently. No point putting a power fist on a squad that needs to say still to fire its heavy weapon.

I'd suggest dropping Vulkan, saving 100pts, since your Salamanders aren't kitted out with Melta's. His flamer is nice but not worth the extra points.

GSCs work best upclose, guaranteed he's going to get close to you, but with T3/5+ armour regular flamers and boltguns are going to bring the hurt. I'd look to figure out how to field the most flamers/bolters possible.

That is correct, I've got no idea what his list will look like. My guess, and the reasoning behind this list, is exactly what you suggest, a horde type list.
Hmm, maybe I'd be better of with a pyromancer psyker as HQ for the salamanders then. My reasoning behind bringing Vulcan was to give my Sergeants MC combiflamers, power fits are there as a "just in case he brings something big and nasty" insurance. Alternatively I could kit my salamanders with meltas, but I have a feeling the flamers will be the better pick

Salamander chapter tactics already allow rerolls of flame wounds, i'll ditch Vulkan. Metas are wasted on GSCs and its not worth MC two boltguns.

5 man Salamander squads with Flamer + Combi-Flamer would be hot stuff.

Since BTs wont benefit from Salamander flame rerolls maybe focus them on medium range (36+) or close combat. My only concern is that i think anything with a range over 36" is going to be wasted as guaranteed he's going to be within 24" the whole game. Heavy Bolters/MLs are cheap anti-horde though.

My only other suggestion would be to keep your squads close, dont let him pick off squads one by one in CC. Force him to come right at you with everything he's got, force him into 6+ flamer templates.

So, combat squading it is, can actually do the same with black templars and field even more special weapons come to think of it. hmm..

Now you're thinking!

If you want to make it real hard for this guy field a Salamander 5 man Command Squad all equipped with Flamers. Remember, with flamer templates you count total hits, not unique. Meaning 5 flame templates hitting 10 guys each = 50 hits (with wound rerolls! cue manic laughter). The key is to force this guy to come at you with everything so you can maximise flamer wounds, hence bunching everyone up.

I was wrong, crusader squads cannot use combat squads for some dumba** reason, never the less they still only need 5 man to use special wepons, so it's still viable Time to let the heretics BURN

Hello fellow Swede and Salamanders player!

I would go for spam flamers and close combat units, and use BT as heavy ranged. Also as a HQ you can take 65pts lib and give him the salamanders relics for some pimping out. Check my other post and see some of my thoughts and ideas on lists. I'm a noob though so if you have any thoughts about improving mine that would be great!
