Having never painted space marines before,I only have google to go on what they should look like, unsure if my colors are to dark?,using some cheap push fit marines to try and nail down the colors in only 3models worth of practice, before painting a small army.Pictures of my first marine below.
Paints used were black undercoat, macragge blue all over the armour, boltgun metal in all the joints, all recesses washed with nuln oil, then macragge blued again, boltgun highlighted dawnstone gray, gehenna's gold on the eagle shoulder pad rims and backpack skull, highlighted armor edges with calgar blue, and blood red for the eye glasses.

He looks fine.
Ultramarines come is all shades, depending on who’s painting them. From pale baby blue to almost black. You want to see dark Ultras? Check out RandyMcStab's. Not even close to the “how to paint” guide, but still cool looking.
One thing I might suggest is to work on your photography. It can be hard to tell shades/colors from pics like yours. I’d suggest getting a couple of lights and then shooting on a neutral, clean background. An old white shirt or piece of paper would work.
Welcome to the Ultramarines, by the way.

I think you are in the range of what counts as Ultras, however going to dark just makes them look like Crimson Fists, so watch out for that.

Even if you do make them as dark as Crimson Fists, as long as you keep the gold trim on the shoulders and avoid any red (beside the eye lenses), than I don't think you'll have any issues.
The model looks good, btw

I really dig the darker look. I wouldn't say too dark at all. It would be the perfect color to add some heavy weathering to the force to make them look super gritty and battle hardened.

Got a theme in mind for my force, going to have to be crisp looking no weathering,as they will be mainly drop pod based, and would be all cleaned up pre battle.
