Hello all I am here today to ask for suggestions on how to equip my starting AM army. I've been playing DA and GK for about 4 years now and wanted to switch things up but stay loyal to the imperium and the emperor.
My army includes (still in box)
- battle tank
- 10 man squad
- 10 man squad
- chimera transport
- command squad
- tempestus scions squad
- Valkyrie gunship
- heavy weapon team
- commissar with power sword and plasma pistol

I have plenty of extra bits so most customizing is possible I'm not looking for someone to build me an army I would just like suggestions on how to equip these units thanks for all your future input!

First this should probably be in General (Mod already alerted).
Second, what sort of playstyle are you looking at? Horde? Armoured Battle Group? Elite forces? A mix of those?

Depending on the play style depends on what you should add, and what equipment to give.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Guard don't do elite anything very well, I'm afraid.

Guard are very slow moving. There are a few things that get around quickly, but not much.

With what you have, you're looking at...

Russ, with Chimera escort, probably with CCS inside to issue orders to speedbump Veterans on the ground. Everything moves about 6" per turn, to maintain firepower. Take Voxes, and lots of ranged firepower upgrades. I'd suggest keeping one unit of Vets dirt cheap. Like, 3x GL, a Bolter, and Vox. Take an Auto Cannon if you have the points, there are orders that will allow the AC to move and fire "effectively". The other Vet Squad could have a trio of Plasma, a Vox, and a Bolter. They'll be a target, so if you can afford Carapace, to get a save against Bolters it would be a good idea. Heavy Weapon if you have points. AC for cheap is worth while as an attack of opportunity weapon. You might want Carapace on the GL squad, also, but leaving it off makes your opponent consider targeting the squishier unit rather than your expensive guns. Similar thing goes into your CCS. No more than 2 weapon upgrades, and a Vox. The Cadian Supplement has some neat relics, related to orders. Fancy guns make the Chimera a target... more important target, anyhow. Cheaper guns leave your opponent wondering if he should bother taking out the Chimera, when the Russ is dropping bombs. Or Plasma. Advisors are generally a good value, even the MoO can be worth taking, as you'll likely sit still for at least one turn... Russ could be cheap, like an Eradicator with Lascannon and Plasma Sponsons, for about the same price as a LRBT, or you could get more expensive / specialized. That group will cost about 450 points.

Valkryie would be better as a Vendetta, with the Scions + Commie inside, if you want to use the Commie. Or put the Commie with the Vets, to make sure they can tarpit a little bit better / pass orders better. The Vendetta probably has enough space for the Scions inside. I recommend Plasma with the Scions, as it best matches the abilities of their "basic" weapon. You're suiciding in, or stealing an objective. Either way, more shots, or longer shots is best for them. Honestly, I'd probably leave the Commie on the shelf. Without the Commie, you're looking at about 260 ish points.

700 points. Not super elite, and sadly, not super effective. My view on IG, is that I started 7th with IG with a near-perfect win record in 6th. I started getting creamed. I started using allies. I started using more allies. I started using IG as minor allies. I stopped using IG, and just played my "allied" army instead.

Wow greatbigtree I really appreciate the input! Really helpful but this army will probably never be my main force like you've said I've seen time and time again AM armies brushed aside by almost all other players. I'm mostly getting into them cause I like the idea of having a fluffy imperial force I'm hoping to have a massive apoc game with my DA GK Imperial fists and AM all in all about 12k points fighting against enemies of the emporer
