We are all aware of the all to common tactic of using Captain Smashfather and a command squad kitted on bikes. It is effective and works very very well. I myself don't like using him often (typically using him in 2K+ point games) and am looking for other tactics that people use. Recently I have been using the Anvil Strike force and tank spamming with decent results. My question to you is what have you used (other than Smashfather) that has worked before in seme-comp or even comp games? Using allies to a minimum as well.

I know all meta's are different and I am thankful to have one were there are very little Eldar players and Tau players.

Just curious to what everyone uses!

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

I think the Anvil Strike Force can work, if your meta don't have ultra strong shooty / mobile army like Eldar and Tau. Giving your squadron of Vindicators or Tri-Las Predators are great. The former can move 12inch and fire apo blast ignore cover S10, the later can move and fire one more of its lascannons.

However, most of the time I'd still like a battle demi company lead by a chapter master smashbane, one to two honored ancient, and Librarius conclave to provide numerous independent characters to spread the buff of detachment.

I just am really hopeful that tank spam can be viable for them. With IWND change for them I feel like they have some chance to survive.

I want to try making a bunker/gunline with tanks and marines. Perhaps with the bonuses to Fnp with the detachment they can last a bit better. The only problem is spreading IC around to ful the bubble.

The Fist of Medusa and Stormlance go together like peanut butter and chocolate. You basically get FNP fire-then-move/embark Space Marines that re-roll to hit enemy units on objectives, paired up with IWND POTMS fire-then-move Razorbacks.

You take a basic Stormlance, with 4 or so Las-plas Razorbacks; the Devestators could alternately use a Rhino if you want dual-Lascannon shenanigans I guess, though a mounted squad with a single Grav Cannon and Armorium Cherub is preferable IMO. You also take a Bike Command Squad with Smashbane.

The Razorbacks advance 6, disembark their squads. The squads fire, then re-embark on their transports. Then the Razorbacks fire, taking advantage of Power of the Machine Spirit (they can even target 2 units at a time if they wish!) before moving another D6". The Lascannon can also re-roll to-hit if you fire at a target near an objective.

The Command Squad is a bully/interceptor unit to keep stuff away from your metal boxes.

Even when the Razorbacks get popped, you still have a lot of angry speedy marines that will hurt you.

That sounds like my kind of list! As much as I dislike Bike Command Squads I know they are necessary for nearly every list.

What is recommend for Aux choice? The Honored Ancients? Or the Dread and Tac choice?

You don't want more Tactical Marines. You'll be fine with just more Dreads.

You can be flexible with the list. There are a fair few options you have available to you.

10th Company is one option for example. FNP scouts are basically budget Necron Warriors. Give the sergeants Combi-Grav and snipe some Specials on turn 1 or so. The Storm Speeders are even more hilarious with POTMS too, since they can Multimelta one target, and Cerebrus Launcher another one.

The Anti-air defense force is also fun too for obvious reasons. Bringing mass Ironclads is also potentially hilarious.

Or there's always bringing in allies for fun.

What about the idea of allying Imperial Knights? I can't imagine that would be a bad idea.

I find that the already-good Librarius Conclave goes like gravy into an Iron Hands detachment. Since you get a bonus to FNP and PotMS for having nearby Independent Characters, having five Librarians in your army slinging buffs around while also just being buff bubbles in general is really useful. I'm a fan of the old standby of a Drop Pod assault, and having Librarians in there is a really solid way to go.
