Can chaos marines [in this case, one of my Iron warriors] take plasma cannons as wargear?
I moddeled an Iron warrior last night with a plasma cannon and it dawned on me that i cant recall ever seeing a CSM with a plasma cannon [not to say they dont exist]. Can they have plasma weapons or have i just been a bit thick and misread something in the rulebook?

Unfortunatly for you(us) the only plas cannon in the csm is on a helbrute (dread).

Sorry.

Obliterators also can morph plasma cannons... Maybe bulk the dude up a bit, give him some weapon tendrils, and a servo arm and count him as an obliterator?

DO'H i just finished painting him
The CSM rulebook i have says havocs can have plasma guns. Can i throw him into the havocs unit and 'count' him as having an ordinary plasma gun. Or is that no longer allowed?

I don't think too many would be too upset by that.

Perhaps you can even create a bit of back story to it; it's a particularly ancient and venerable mark of plasma weapon, an early example before they were able to either minimise the size of the weapon or maximise its potency. As such it fires as a plasma gun despite being the size of a heavy one.

Or perhaps the logistic issues chaos marines face means the owner downgraded its output to maximise its field life?

Perhaps it has damaged fuel cells and simply doesn't fire as well as it used to.

Lots of options, perhaps you could even modify the paint job to reflect something along these lines?

Since the CSM have no Plasma Cannon, I would be ok with that because there is not ambiguity and is a weapon very close.

Just imagine that havoc looted the cannon from loyalists and learned to shoot it with less power to spare the power cells or something because is not familiar with a full power cannon. Or something like that.

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?
Your army could suffer Post-Chapterhouse Stress Disorder (PCSD)! If you think that your army is suffering one or more of the aforementioned symptoms, call us at 789-666-1982 for a quick diagnosis!

I don't understand why CSM [especially Iron warriors in this case] cant have plasma weapons. Iron warrior lore states they scavenge and loot weapons from the battlefield. Surely a plasma rifle is easier to steal than a basilisk. It'd certainly be easier to carry.
I might just glue a las cannon barrel in the guns barrel. That might work

When you become a traitor space marine, you turn in your plasma and grav guns and are issued autocannons.

In 2nd edition they lost plasma cannons and multimeltas because at the time of the Heresy those weapons didn't exist in marine-portable forms. Vehicles had them, the dreadnought did anyway, but that was it. Forgeworld added those back in though with the big legion update and now there are volkites and so on, so who knows?

I don't think anybody would mind if you used him either as plasma gunner or missile launcher. Especially if you painted him already. I wonder though, which CSM codex you have that allows plasma cannons as I can't think of any Pictures of it are in there, though. As some posters said, Obliterators and Dreads are the only source of Plasmacannons for CSM (aside from Ectoplasma on forgefiends and rapier weapons of course).

I cut the arms off and gave him a las cannon instead. Didn't take me long to fix. I like playing by the rules anyway
