I'm thinking about adding some Skitarii allies to my Blood Angels army and was hoping to get some input from people. I've read some good things online but they all start with "Put your Skitarii in a Drop Pod or Rhino" which isn't really an option any more unless I want a turn of mucking about embarking units.
What I was thinking was adding two units of Vanguard and a unit of Infiltrators. They are pretty fast on footwith Scout or Inflitrate. Both units offer Toughness debuffs which would stack well with the Furious Charge on my Assault Marines, with Inflitrators also knocking down Weapon Skill. Could be a pretty good combo.
That's just my thoughts, just hoping to get more recent ideas on Blood Angels and Skitarii that weren't knocked out by the FAQ's.
Cheers

Hi there ! I think the reason everyone says they should be put in a drop pod or any transport is because they lack transports themselves, and aren't really tough enough to make it alive to the other side of the board (4+ save and 6+ FNP). But yeah they have Scout and Crusader, but only if you take them as part of the standard Skitarii Maniple, which is easy to achieve as it's just 2 Troop choices. Infiltrators do have Infiltration though (no way).

Vanguards are really cheap and should be a nice asset once they reach the enemy, their basic weapons can wound anything twice on a 6 to wound, and they have that sweet debuff to whoever is locked in combat with them. You can use their Imperatives to boost their WS too ! Other than that they're not really melee monsters, best to combine their charge with another one of your choppy units.

Infiltrators don't debuff Toughness, they reduce in a 6" bubble WS, BS, I and Ld by one point. Still really nice but don't mistake it. If you run them to use on melee I'd recommend equipping them with Flechette Blasters and Taser Goads, so you have the bonus attack from the pistol (the other loadout is an Assault weapons). And Taser means you hit THREE TIMES on a 6 to hit in melee, and it gives +2 S too. They're quite pricey and not really resilient, although they come with a 4+, 6++ and 5+ FNP but with T3. Move 9" most of the time too.

If you're into it you could read about the Dragoons too, they're cheap and can really make their points back when used well. Seems good in a melee-oriented army !

You can still do the Rhino. They can't start the game in it but that's okay.
