So I've been doing some cleaning and orginizing in general and that includes my model stashes. While doing so, I found a Warhound class and a Reaver class Titan, both of which were both 3 and 4 years ago respectively via eBay. The Warhound had some minor damage, mostly just broken tubes and such but most of the toes weren't attached and either were the arms. I was thinking about magnetizing those but not sure as I've not had good results with other magnetizing projects. The Reaver on the other hand was professionally assembled and packaged extremely well to where it needs 0 repairs and because the arms, head and torso/leg assemble were all magnetized, it's good to go! Now I'm thinking of color schemes and just how I can paint these beasts but the big question is if I should base and if I do, how and with what. I don't really see myself playing them in any games but I want to retain that option and so I think keeping them unbased is the best bet in that case. I'm also worried about them toppling over and suffering major damage and the best way I can think to prevent (or at least limit) that happening is with a base. So what did YOU do with your titan?

Outer Space, Apparently

I say give them magnetised bases so you have the option of taking them off as and when; I've always found Titan bases to look a bit silly (unless they're display pieces), and they can also be fiddly when deployed in a game. Magnetising them should give you the best of both worlds, display wise and game wise.

Also, Titans are typically quite stable models, but it really depends on how they're posed. It's knocking into them that's the issue, and a base won't really prevent a fall from that.

At my desk

Eldar Titans definitely need to be mounted to something fairly big, and fairly heavy as they have a very high center of mass and are usually posed without both feet flat on the ground.

Every other Titan I'd say should go baseless, they can stand on their own and bases can get in the way.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

Eldar titans basically need to be bolted to a base almost.
Warhounds being the only other titan I've seen are perfectly fine standing on their own feet. Though I'd suggest a base for anything to help protect the toes a bit, plus it'd give you a little more freedom with posing and would only add to a great centerpiece model. Generally the base is large enough you can fit a small diorama of infantry on it. Just make sure the base is not too big so it stays out of the way a bit more.
