Hi Guys

I came back to the game after a 15 year hiatus last summer and have been ghosting forums on the topic for months but now my curiosity is getting the better of me and I was wondering if you would be able to wade in with regards to my list.

The general goal is that this is an all-comers list to learn the new rules (of which there are a dizzying amount compared to the game I left), learn my army and play against friends (who collect Orcs, Tyranids and Chaos Space Marines predominantly). While yes; I will eventually take this to my local gaming club (if I can find one) and might partake in some non-ITC tournaments a fully competitive list isn’t really the goal. To that end you will probably have noticed that I have avoided thunderwolf and wulfen spam which is so prevalent in most competitive lists and instead taken a variety of units with models I love. The loadouts of these units however are what I could consider strong (thus making them as effective as possible without cheesing). I have tried to follow competitions formats as close as possible (1 CAD, 1 formation, no forgeworld).

I have already purchased the models and about ½ way through painting and assembly (will add status next to models. Those which are unpainted and assembled are open to change, those that are completed would require me to buy new models and will be considered for future purchases).

Thanks in advance.

So without Further ado;

Hi i'd suggest to keep thunderwolves, wulfen, 3 pods and two units of grey hunters. I alwasy take this units too. But wulfen really shine on foot in their formation as they give extra movements to the thunderwolves and have some other upgrades in combat. 2x5 wulfen and 6 thunderwolves (eventually plus HQ) are really good and cost under 800 points. Then i suggest 3 pods full of grey hunters, maybe one full of blood claws if you need to save points. I like long fangs but i'd give them the same weapon (missiles are good) and the rune priest doesn't synergize with them. Stick him with some grey hunters in drop pods. I don't like terminators at all, and so land raiders but if you like them keep them. I'd suggest a list with a wolf lord (much better than a battle leader and not that more expensive), 5-6 thunderwolves, 2x5 wulfen, 5 long fangs, 3 drop pods full of grey hunters and rune priest(s). Wulfen are equipped perfectly in your list, maybe a single stormfrag autolancher is enough but we're talking about 2 points so it doesn't really matter, the thunderwolves need at least one storm shield every two of them, and maybe a single thunder hammer, no other upgrades. Meltas and pack leaders with combi meltas for grey hunters, eventually a normal dude equipped with a power fist, rune priests just stock, one upgraded to mastery level 2. Lord on a thunderwolf, storm shield and black death. I'd avoid the company of the great wolf detachment as it force you to field two elites and wulfen are better as part of their formation, so i'd go with a CAD. If you really want it (and the possibility to equip the lord with the krakenbone sword) add servitors as mandatory elites as they cost very few points.
