Hi all! Was wondering what the best mission would be for a 750 point battle. Maelstrom is of course out of the question at such small scale, but should I go for an eternal war mission or create my own? And should we use a 4x4 table?
I've got some 750 point battles coming up with friends, to try out my fledging Grey Knights army - currently just a librarian, two squads of five terminators and a dreadknight.
Thanks for any advice!

Why is Maelstrom out of the question?

I just thought that with just 3 or 4 units each we'd struggle to get any objectives. I always imagined maelstrom was designed for larger sized battles, like 1500 points upwards. Does maelstrom work well in smaller sized battles?

750 Point Maelstrom list.
Tallyband
45-3 Nurglings
45-3 Nurglings
45-3 Nurglings
45-3 Nurglings
45-3 Nurglings
45-3 Nurglings
45-3 Nurglings
70-Herald of Nurgle, ML 1
Command
325-Nurgle Daemon Prince, Wings, ML 3, Lesser Reward, Greater Rewards (2)
Auxiliary
35-5 Furies
745 points. 5 Points to, I dunno. Take an extra Fury? No, they're 6 points.
Either way, you get 10 units, 7 of which infiltrate, all of which can deep strike, and one of which is really, REALLY scary!
Alternatively, take this:

A whopping 16 units, 14 of which infiltrate!

I would just create your own. The 40k book missions are just not very well thought out for balance or fun.
For 750 points, I'd definitely use a 4'x4' table. Set up your terrain. Then divide the table into quadrants and take turns putting one objective marker in each quadrant, no objective closer than 8" to the outer or inner edge of any quadrant. Then put one objective in the middle of the table. Each objective is worth 1 VP. Roll for deployment zones, the winner picks a quadrant and deploys anywhere in that quadrant that is at least 12" away from the table center. Fight!
Special rules: night fight, first blood, slay the warlord
Easy set up, easy rules, fair fight.

That's also a good idea. Do note, that as GK, you're likely to lose on Maelstrom no matter what-most armies will just plain outnumber you in squads. (As seen by my example lists.)

Use the 4x4 table and maelstrom should be fine. Of course, making your own missions is half the fun.

You could just play on a smaller board. Objectives would be closer to each other => there's gona be no problem with that.
I'd say that maelstorm + eternal (w/o the purely killpoint mission or extra vp for killing a unit type) + killpoints (pts killed - not units killed) is probably the most balanced approach i've encountered.

A mission we often use in my smaller games is 3 objectives along the center of the board (4x4), one in the middle of each deployment zone. 3 points for the one in your opponent's deployment, 2 for the center, 1 for yours. First blood, linebreaker, and warlord, and possibly a "choose your own objective" from a list of options. Successfully deny the witch, make an enemy fail a morale test, wipe an enemy unit in CC, issue a challenge with your warlord, etc.

Played a couple games recently with similar point size.
2 objectives was trivial, and simplified the game a little too much.
3-4 objectives was just right.
