Getting back into 40k after a long absence, used to play Dark Angels but I want to start a new army and IG caught my attention. Here's my first attempt at a list. I don't plan on going to any competitive tournaments but I would like to do well in casual games, and maybe give the more competitive armies a run for their money.

HQ:
Pask in Punisher, HB sponsons, heavy stubber
- Exterminator buddy, lascannon, HB sponsons, heavy stubber

Troops:
Vet squad
- 2x melta guns, chimera
Vet squad
- 2x melta guns, chimera
Vet squad
- autocannon, plasma gun chimera
Vet squad
- autocannon, plasma gun, chimera

Elites:
5x Scions
- x2 melta guns

Heavy Support:
2x Leman Russ Demolishers
Wyvern

Scions will deepstrike and together with the melta vets will prioritize the biggest threats to my vehicles. Autocannon vets are for objectives and anti-infantry. Pask's squad is versatile enough to handle infantry and light vehicles. Was thinking about using LRBT instead of demolishers but strength 10 is handy for centurions and the like. Any thoughts or suggestions?

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.

Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.

And he will hold the line.

It looks solid, just in my local play group there is to much drop pod melta spam, to risk warlord and pask with no on foot infantry to buffer them.

Was thinking about stitching out the 2 autocannon vet squads for an infantry platoon, although I don't have enough models for that yet.

With the points saved I could get 2x 20 man squads, platoon CS and either commissars or heavy weapons for each squad. I think that would give enough bubble wrapping for the tanks,

Working with the models you have, drop the chimeras on the autocannon vets. Give all vets Grenadier and a few more guns. Deploy chimeras on the ends with the two foot units spread the full 2" coherency in front. Should be enough. You'reonly looking to protect from that first turn drop. After that you can move out

Ofcourse every plan changes based on your opponent.

Should I give more guns to the metla vets? There's only 2 fire points in the chimera so I don't really see a point in giving them more.

And yeah, the long term plan is to have 2 armies, mech and foot blobs which I'll switch out randomly to keep people from tailoring their lists (I play mostly the same 10-12 people)

If your group allows Forge World stuff, I'd drop the autocannons on one of the Vet squads and slap some on the chimmies. I also agree with the others- your list needs more infantry to hold objectives and be human shields for more important units.
