I've never really used them much, but I just watched a battle report and they were easy MVP's. Has anyone got any experience running them and what loadout to use? Anyone got any experience of having to face one and whether you found it easy to beat or difficult? Thanks in advance

They're glass melee cannons. AV 12 is not survivable in 7th.

I've always found myself resorting to Furioso variants when I do bring Dreadnaughts. WS5 and AV13 top it, despite less attacks.

I'm starting to think that DC dreads would be better against ws3 armies and things like tyranids and orks. When fighting ws3 they are better than furioso on offence and I think that None Can Stay My Wrath can go some way to making it surviable. Not quite as survivable as the furioso, but it's something. Would be better if it incuded IWND imo. Also awesome at monstrous creature slaying if it can get the red thirst.

To supplement your point, DC dread is also better when fighting against enemies who are WS6 up to WS8. In this case, DC dreads are better in fighting against Maulerfiends, Lord of Change, Mawlocs, Tervigons, Trygons, Hive Tyrants, Chapter Master and equivlent. And possibly Abbadon. While he is bad when fighting Swarmlord, Bloodthirster and Daemon Princes and Belakor.

I generally upgrade to libby dreads unless I need a DC one for a formation.

DC Dreads generally end up as a suicide unit that charges either a massive tarpit or a giant threat. They can tear blobs of Guard, Nids, and Orks up and stop them from tying up your valuable assault units (Death Company, Sanguinary Guard, Terminators) and then they can hold up decently (only decently) against most Monstrous Creatures, sometimes it'll get lucky and win, a lot of the time it'll just not die for a few turns (Particularly against Tyranids that regenerate so neither party takes much damage). They're decent for fighting Heavy Support Daemon Princes from the Daemon Codex, but HQ Princes with Daemon Weapons will mostly insta-kill the DC Dread, so avoid them.

It was indeed, I was just shocked at the damage output and their tactical value. Their scre factor meant that the Tyranid player had to turn half his army's points around to deal with the new threat of 2 DC dreads.

In the old BA dex, armed with talons and deploying into assault from a raven DC dreads were (alongside fragiosos with the old magna grapples), the best units in the (admittedly incredibly sub-par) dex imo. With the old talons and buffed with prescience they would almost obliterate even a full 20 man squad of bezerkers in one round of assault. Whilst the fragioso managed to destroy any tank it was podded behind/next to.
Whilst the new dex is overall far better, there were many, many nerfs that were uneeded. Those 2 in particular relegated good units to ok/meh units. Now I find a DC dread podded in a T1 distraction and little else because as Martel says, av12 doesn't hold up very well. At least that was the case when I finished playing 6 months ago, could have changed now... although I doubt it with Tau released on top of the eldar dex that was released a couple of months before I left the country.

They can still get a heavy flamer shot off when they drop in. This can cripple some Xeno infantry squads. Not great, but it's something. And, of course, there's Lucius pods.
