I am painting up Perturabo at the moment. I'm not the best painter but I was curious, what would you think of a very dark purple tone washed into the deepest recesses of the silver? I see a lot of people do blue which gives it a very cold tone, but I was thinking purple could really give it a ethereal, insidious feel to it.

Some progress shots.

Purple would look neato! Definitely agree on the ethereal feel it would portray, and dude, your painting is very clean so far! Keep it up!!!!

With something very neutral like silver a good way to add interest to the model is to vary the tone from warm to cold (redder side of purple, or brownish, to blue in shade). I've seen purples, reds, yellows, all sorts used.

I have used a watered down (with lahmian) druchi purple wash over metallic areas to convey oily worky bits. Sometimes drop in a tiny bit of blue wash in there to.
