I’m thinking of building a Custodes force. They look cool.

Is there any reason to take the shields and swords over the spears?

Also are Custodes appropriately costed at 260 per squad? Would hate to be accused of cheese. They seem awfully good, a squad of troops with character-like attributes. It’s almost as if they have the stats of what those movie space marines should have.

You can find me in the Chicago Tiki Room, where the drinks are always strong but don't taste that way!!!

Take a few guys with shields and put them at the front of the squad. 2+ armor is great on a T5 2W model, but it becomes less great when they start hitting you with grav and you have no save.

As for the cost... It depends. At 260, they're pretty darned expensive, have to footslog or Deep Strike, and have no way of dealing with high AV or fast enemies.

However, you can really buff them up very, very quickly. A libby conclave and a few Ministorum Priests makes them all but completely indestructible and boosts their damage through the roof, which I think starts to qualify as some mild cheese. It's basically a 7th edition paladin-star.
