So here's my painting blog for TheMechanicusWithNoPlan! That was supposed to sound a lot better than it does... TheManWithNoPlan paints Mechanicus! Yay!
So here I am starting a Mechanicus force because I love the models and my wallet is finally fat enough to support my hobby again. I hope that by keeping this project as a log on Dakka it'll give me incentive to actually finish things because I'll feel compelled to post something - I mean it fully well may not and I'll just end up with a dead thread and an unfinished army, let's hope that doesn't happen though. Now onto the topic of actual models (apparently it's what this whole hobby business about, right?) I recently picked up a Start Collecting! Skitarii box, with another in postage and a box of Imperial Knights: Renegade. I'm not letting myself touch the Knights just yet though, I want to get a core of Skitarii going first. Anyway enough of my talking.
Let's set the mood.
And let's get to the models.
Here's just a plain old Arch Magos. No conversions or anything on him, but now that I've had some experience with the kit I'm going to cut the next one to bits.
I decided to build half of the infantry as Vanguard and the other half as Rangers just for the variety. I'm torn between bulking out with lots of Vanguard or just making one squad of ten for a War Convocation (Yes I know it is generally a cheese formation, so the list I'm building tries to minimise on optimisation and instead focuses on fluff)
The Rangers that make up the other half of the ten infantry in the Start Collecting! box. The only expansion to this squad that I plan is to swap out one of the regular Rangers with another Transuranic Arquebus. The painted one in there is my test model.
Onager Dunecrawler with Neutron Laser. Because it's got a frickin' laser beam attached to it's frickin head. I took a pointing left arm from the infantry kit and put that on the gunner Skitarii, a simple kitbash but I wanted to break up the monotony of Mechanicum efficiency.
So here's my test model for my Martian Skitarii theme. I'm going to say this now: I am not a good painter, and probably will never be more than average - I must have been stood behind the door when god was giving out the steady hands because my motor control is awful. So awkward confession aside I'm quite liking this paint scheme and would like to hear anything you guys you have to say about it. I plan to base these models with
GW Ironearth texture once I get my hands on a pot of it.
Unfortunately wanting to do Martian Skitarii means that I have to do another red, so I tried to make it different to my Blood Angels. That Blood Angel is an older model of mine so I'm glad to say my painting has improved for this project - I am digressing. For this project I'm using Screamer Pink and Khorne Red as opposed to Mephiston Red and Wild Rider Red for the Blood Angel. Again, what do you think?
I must apologise for my sub-standard photography.
I'm no good at this sort of thing on a good day and here's what I was working with to get these photos out (not pictures is the hand torch I was holding in my teeth to prevent the top light from casting strong shadows). Now that I've got a painting log that I need to care about I'll probably look in to making a decent photography set but for now it'll have to do.
Well, that was the first post for this painting log, hopefully I'll be updating it soon with some painted models. Thanks for checking this out.
