So, I'm considering buying the Start Collecting! Malignants to expand my Death Army (and because I have some free time coming up soon... tooth surgery related issues). Right now, I have:

Neferata, Mortarch of Blood
Necromancer
20 Skeleton Warriors
10 Black Knights
5 Hexwraiths

If I do decide to buy the Malignants box, would you recommend the Mortis Engine or the Coven Throne? Both seem to have some very good abilities, and both models look great. Which would you recommend?

Since you are running neferata a coven throne fits the theme more I am more a lore guy myself when building my armies.

I like the Coven Throne more than the Mortis Engine, just for thee number of attacks it does and the re-roll you get from the Scrying Pool which I usually use to re-roll turn initiative

I do like the Mortis Engine's area of effect weapon. Given favor by the dice gawds seems like it could do some damage if in the right position. The fact that you get to roll for every enemy unit within range is cool to me.

However, the Coven Throne looks better if you just want to plough in, cut down some rabble and finish the boss off with the Blood Kiss.

The much cheaper price, amazing AOE ability, and casting bonus makes me have to recommend the Mortis Engine. Other than getting a single reroll I can't see any value in using a Coven Throne.
