Hi Guys,

I wanna start an eldar list, I love the idea of jetbikes! 12" movement and scatter lasers at str 6! amazing!

But the nitty gritty is where the hell do I start? I know a lot of people will say get the Start Collecting Box! which i probably will, Fire Prysm, 3 Windriders and a Farseer seems like a great start and if i get another two units of 3 Windriders thats going to come in close to 500pts.

HQ
Farseer - Jet Bike, Singing Spear
120pts

TROOP
3 x Windrunners, all Scatter Laser
81pts

3 x Windrunners, all Scatter Laser
81pts

3 x Windrunners, all Scatter Laser
81pts

HEAVY SUPPORT
Fire Prysm, Shurikan Cannon
135pts

Thats 498pts Would this be a good start to a fast bike list?
Let me know!

And from there what the hell do I get next whats competitive? whats great on the field, what can deal with multiple threats?
And finally i do plan on magnetizing almost everything giving me more options, and using magnet toys on the flying bases!

Help me out please!

Final Note: If anyone can give me a basic list of paints for the Saim Han color scheme that would be fab, ill probably keep it minimal with base colors, shading and a slight highlight on white and red!

How do you make that competitive? Play against 1000 point lists?

Eldar are crazy powerful. One of the things that makes them that good is ScatBikes. Other things include Warithknights and Warp Spiders. Wraithguard are also up there. If you want to make a strong Eldar list, just spam the broken stuff.

If you want to play a fun game and keep your friends, you need to tone it down a bit. This depends a lot on your local meta. Some are highly competitive all the time. In which case, gloves are off and go for it!

Magnetizing bikes is pretty easy. The Fire Prism is doable, but takes a little more work. One reason to magnetize them is so you can tone down your lists. In a more friendly setting, run the bikes with 1-in-3 heavy weapons. It will also future proof your models. If GW wakes up and realizes that every bike with a heavy was a little unbalanced and nerfs them, you won’t have a ton of bikes you can’t field anymore.

S6 spam can deal with most everything. Except heavy armor. You have the Fire Prism, but I’d want more going up to higher point lists.

Competitive answer: Unit of wraithguard in a WS, or a WK.
Slightly more friendly answer: Fire dragons in a falcon, another FP
Pretty casual answer: just scatter brightlances across your army in things like guardian squads, on WSs, vypers, falcons, etc.

What other parts of the Eldar army/lore appeal to you? Bikes, obviously. But when you start on a strong core, you can pretty much take whatever you want and still have a valid list. One of the problems with Eldar is not making a competitive list, but making a fun one to play with/against.

If I was adding to your list to boost it up to 1k points, I’d add a guardian defender squad (platform/warlock) in a WS (brightlance) and a fire dragon squad in a falcon.

For painting, I use mostly Khorn Red. Takes a few coats to get a smooth finish. Then mostly black and silver. I also use a micra pen to blackline the panels on the tanks. Fairly simple scheme I can bang out pretty quick.

Wasn't this the case last edition and you had to have this ratio?
I am a returning player and I always thought this was the rules before. I didn't realize they changed it so that every bike could have a heavy weapon!

Yup. The latest codex allows every bike to take a shuricannon or a scatter laster. There is a reason there is a lot of hate out there for Eldar. Squads of jetbikes where every one of them has a scatter laster, zipping out and spamming out a ton of fire. It’s frankly one of the most broken things in the game right now.

Previously where one 1 in 3 could have a heavy (and only the more reasonable shuricannon at that) you either had the catapult bikes acting as ablative wounds/tax for the big gun, or had to close to knife fight range to get all the firepower out of the squad.

And they were still worth taking. Mostly for being a troop pick that could zip across the table and grab objectives. These days you have all the objective grabbing fun, plus mind-blowing firepower.

Not to sound too salty about the whole thing, but I like jet bikes thematically. They are just so broken, especially when taken full advantage of and spammed.
