1. What paint are you using? If you are using citadel how do you thin it?
Damned near everything. My favourite paints to spray are Tamiya but they require a different thinner and have a limited colour range.
If I'm spraying citadel I use Vallejo Airbrush Thinner.
2. If you are thinning paints what tools are you using? Eye droppers, syringes, Bottles? Where do you get those tools?
Vallejo thinner comes in a dropper bottle already. I usually just mix it in my paint cup.
For other stuff that doesn't come in dropper bottles (Enamel thinners, lacquer thinners, etc) I use a plastic eye dropper, I've been using the same one for ages which came with my airbrush,
lol.
For paint itself that doesn't already come in a dropper bottle, I just use old crappy brushes to transfer it.
3. How is Vallejo Game Air? Is it worth it over mixing? Is there any other airbrush acrylics that are any good?
It's ok, it might be helpful when you're initially learning. I find I still have to thin Vallejo Air, using it unthinned is too thick for my liking, but it's much closer to the right consistency out of the bottle.
I've bought a handful of Vallejo Air when I first bought my airbrush, but since learning how to thin properly I haven't bought any more.
4. How is tamiya clear red or other clears? Is it a good place for a newb to start if I wanted to do preshading and then get good results?
If you're going to use Tamiya clears I recommend getting a bottle of Mr Color Levelling Thinner (specifically get the Levelling variety! The non-levelling variety dries too fast for Tamiya acrylics).
Spraying clears can be tricky on complicated shapes because you have to spray from a lot of different angles, but if you hit one area more times than another area it'll look "deeper", so it takes a bit of practice to get good results.
5. Are there any good youtube channels or online tutorials to watch?
Thanks for any help
I used to watch buypainted when I started out for ideas, but I've kind of just developed my own style after that. I mostly look at youtube when I'm looking for specific techniques rather than looking for specific channels.
Most people airbrush miniatures in a way that I find too jarring, so I spend more time looking at historic military modellers rather than miniature painters, but that's just because they tend to hit on "the look" I prefer.
