Hi all. I really like one of the alternate color schemes for Thousand Sons that is listed at the back of the setting book in Wrath of Magnus. It's actually the last color scheme in the book; I don't have it in front of me, but it's called the Order of Hermetic Blades or something. The basic gist is a very light blue instead of the darker standard blue against the standard yellow/gold.

Does anyone know which Citadel paints and inks would work best for the light blue of this color scheme, as well as for the contrasting dark tabards these Sons where? Thanks!

I found a pic, if that helps:

here.

For the armor, this is a guess, but I would personally basecoat Celestra Grey, layer up to Ulthuan Grey, and use Drakenhof Nightshade *extremely* thinned down (something like 2-to-1 medium to wash) to give it a slight bluish stain and do recess shading for you.

The tabards and stoles just look like straight black and white, honestly. For highlights on the black, I'd lean toward Eshin Grey (a good, neutral grey that's not too bluish or dirty; my go-to for a lot of black highlighting in the Citadel range) with fine highlights done in Dawnstone.

Again, this is just guesswork, but I think it has a chance of working out pretty well. Do you have a test model you could try it out on? Don't use one of your Rubrics until you've got something you like, but literally any model will work to see if the color comes out right.

Thanks for the thoughts! I'm a little colorblind, so it is sometimes difficult for me to determine what colors on the page translate to in terms of paints.

I actually have some older style Thousand Sons lying around that I can test these on.

I've been working on that paint theme as well. I've done a base in Lothern Blue, wash it in a darker blue to add some depth, then dry brush in White and blend that in where needed. So far I've got a Rubric Squad, a Scarab Squad, a couple of Sorcerers, and a converted Heldrake in this.

That sounds interesting as well.

I just got back from the local GW store. The guy there thought that basing in Caledor, building up with Lothern and Teclis Blues, then finishing with several thin coats of Baharroth might work also. I bought a box of scarab terminators; once I assemble them, I'll try out some of these schemes and see how they go.
