It's been a while. I basically stopped all hobby related activities, including my favorite game Infinity back when Campaign Paradiso came out. Interest simply fizzled.
But now we have a whole new edition and a sweet new starter set with Red Veil and I'm back with my Yu Jing having split the Red Veil box right down the middle-o. Here is my previous log if anyone want to go back and check out the oldies.

The new starter has been painted up and I've had a few games with it's contents already. Here's one regular opponent. Sonckas Haqqislam. Check it out as well if you're into Infinity.

First up, the Zúyǒng Invincible.

Lovely mini really, the new standard for Yu Jing heavy infantry, the newly manufactured line of Invincible body armor. He's pretty no frills gameplay wise and so far he's done fairly well. The model is packing the multi rifle but I've mostly used him as the combi rifle toting paramedic option.

Next, the three Zhanshis.

Eh, not much to say, the first to be painted and not the most succesful ones out of the box. The bad photo leaves the faces a bit washed out, sorry, but they were the basis for the slightly new color scheme that is now the basis for the State army and Invincible army parts of my Yu Jing, yellow and light grey.

Ninja! With a bow...?

I love this one, the exclusive Yu Jing figure from Red Veil, the ninja with tactical bow, mainly very light grey. Pretty straight forward, with red on the katana sheaths to pop just a bit, the tactical bow is not as useful as a combi rifle but it is cheaper, and looks sweeter.

My favorite out of the box, the Tiger Soldier jump trooper with combi rifle + light flamethrower combo. So far she's failed every single Combat Jump deployment and gotten killed but she does look flashy doing it. I think she turned out somewhat acceptable, I think my painting is slowly (sloooowly) improving.

Lastly is the Hsien, representing the Imperial Service and packing the firepower with a HMG.

The standard yellow for the armor and jade green to show ties to the imperial service. I've decided that all imperial service members will come with the jade as the accent rather than grey just to differentiate a bit and if I ever take a foray into the murky waters of the secret police it will be nice to have a variant scheme on the table.

That's it for the starter box but since I've been struck with the fervour of someone new to the hobby I went a bit shopping mad and have a whole bunch of lil' dudes waiting to get into uniform, a Hac Tao, a second Guilang and Tiger and that's not even mentioning my decision to branch into the Japanese Sectorial, eh.

Comments welcome, critisisms welcome and tips on highlighting are very welcome.

Cheers.

Stuff to still get done, a bunch of primed misfits both old and new and the bare pewter of JSA, recently aquired. I am split on whether to paint the JSA first, having a painted and playable sectorial list or finally getting the spec ops and remote painted first. Ps Alan Wake was kinda awful wasn't it

I say get the Spec-Ops done so we can have them go at it.

PS. It's certainly no Deadly Premonition, but I think Alan Wake is alright.

I'll get cracking on my two Spec Opseses.

On another note here's some scatter terrain I've done up. The whole lot of terrain I'm working on is a slummy urban area inspired by good old cyberpunk, Midgar and the level Firebase Ghost in Mass Effect 3. Y'know, this one:
Back in the heyday of MDF scenery for Infinity it seemed everyone owned a couple of Sarissa or Warmill pods and I've always wanted to put together a bunch of similar buildings to make a Firebase Ghost-ish table or section of a table so I'm currently working on assembling a few pod buildings standing in for low income housing in the future myself but inbetween those you'll always need some scatter terrain.

Couple of scratchbuilt smaller LOF blockers. Two billboards, one big from foamcore, and a smaller one, as well as a public bathroom.

Anomala cars and Bayakan bikes by Antenocitis. Good value, made from resin. Small, cute and good cover. The last two are diecast toy cars that where just quickly primed and painted up for some more scatter, pretty big, but looks alright.

Did up and/or photographed more of the scatter terrain as well as the first pod, it's pretty rough and I'm only moderately happy with it but it's a first doing big projects with foamcore for me, and it did turn out pretty big.

First up, more cars. The first one is an old Grendel car and the funny looking eggy ones are more cars from Antenocitis.

Micro arts stuff! Great kit, the District 5 gate set. Two of those gates with removable doors and four road blocks in total, with six pillars that they attach to.

Some quick and dirty barrels, made from the now well known soda cap trick.

Micro arts district 5 objective room. I loathed assembling it, honestly, it was a bitch, such a snug fit to get the walls to line up along with the floor but at least it's done.

First pod, rough and fugly.

I love your terrain. My favourite is the Silent Hill graffiti.
Now tell me: how did you do the District 5 walls? I want my buildings and billboards to look like that.

Thank you!
They're primed with bleached bone-ish primer and then stippled with pure white. I just used the sponge that came in a blister of minis. The walls are quite heavily stippled with white while the objective room has less white. It can get a bit messy

Damn, that Firebase pic really got me in the mood for some Mass Effect...

Where are all your posters from? I'd assume they're just downloaded and printed out, but I know you don't have the stuff for it!

Beyond the Beltway

The objective room turned out well. Yurika Oda? Not an oft seen mini.

Everyone loves that Ninja mini. It is the diva of the box, so to speak.

Maybe a thin coat of a glazing compound on the auto windshields and windows? Give it a try. I find it produces a glass-like sheen without being too glossy.

So I haven't been very active with this thread, sorry, but I have been doing some painting so it all gets dumped on you at once, in a whopping update. Sized some of the photos a bit wonky, but eh.
Also thanks a lot Cleatus!
And Soncka, yup, just printed out. Actually got da partner to do it for me at work, so.

Finished the terrain, well, I ran out of foam core sheets, this is how the buildings ended up, rather rough do to the trial and error I went through.

Two smaller ones.

And one with a wider footprint.

Together:

And RedHarvest, I ended up gloss varnishing the entire cars, might have been premature, next time I have one to paint I'll try a glaze instead, they are quite shiny now

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And since it's been so long the question on whether to focus on the Spec opses or the JSA is now moot as I've finished the spec ops and made rather good progress on painting all my JSA.

Spec ops double trouble:

As RedHarvest already noticed, I picked up Yuriko Oda. Like the mini a lot, will probably use as a generic Spec ops when I want one based on a Keisotsu.

Yu Jing spec ops mini, finally painted. Bought it ages ago along with the Paradiso book. Like, what, five years ago or something now.

Two Domarus:

Didn't get the full box of them, just got the two, bought separately. Kinda regret it now as I quite like them.

Two Keisotsus, the good old cannon fodder:

Kinda pleased with them, honestly. Too bad they are so underscaled now. They look practically malnourished next to Zhanshi line troops.

Kempeitai, the second in command with the unfortunate name:

I am fine with how she turned out as well, swell mini.

And then Raiden, who not only wins by fatality, is also the one of these painted figs I am most looking forward to trying out, limited camo and a heavy rocket launcher for only 21 points.

Well done, bruv!
I look forward to kill them all with sniper fire.

A very interesting army You have got! Maybe in some places the yellow looks to flat and there is not enough contrast to really say "that's the cartoony look done", but otherwise - very solid. My favorites are kempetai and both spec ops. Raiden is good, but maybe a better photo would make the difference.

And all that terrain... nice with both thumbs up!

Well, snipers can't get everything!

And, hey Wirecat, thanks a lot for the feedback, much appreciated. Still trying to improve, making the yellow pop a bit more is something I should try, Raiden is pretty washed out.

I paint more than I update this thread. Here's a bunch of stuff:

Guilang skirmisher. Already have the sniper variant since long ago, this is the arguably more useful model, with combi. Can be a hacker, a minelayer, just a standard skirmisher. Great.

Another Tiger Soldier but with a Spitfire. Need more SWC available for variety so.

Painted a remote and the vanilla Yu Jing engineer, I got them both ages ago, but only recently-ish painted them.

Also, I am still on track with getting all my JSA painted! Only now I've gone and gotten more JSA, so, more sectorial stuff to come, but for now

One of the initial reasons why I wanted to give JSA a go. The Karakuri Special Project. Interesting profiles, nice minis, tons of weapons. Not that happy with how they turned out, might touch up but hey Robo Geishas are Robo Geishas.

Kitsune, the special character oniwaban totin' that superiour nipponese pig ironu in SPACE.

Aragoto biker, assault hacker variant, quite like it, I think. It turned out respectably, I just really wish the combi rifle was somewhere on the model.

Asuka Kisaragi, special character Aragoto biker. Makes a good agressive LT, high WIP, packs a flamethrower.

Guija Squadrons! Happy with it. Photo does not do it complete justice, the hightlights kinda disappeared, so more pictures to come perhaps. Was kinda pleased with how it turned out, it sort of automatically becomes the centerpiece when you deploy it because this thing is big. Well, not compared to one other TAG perhaps.

Tips and critisiscmscms encouraged. I am actively trying to improve my painting.

Wow, that Guilang's Combi looks way too big!

There are minis here I haven't seen before, yes? I like 'em.
You are a better painter than I am, that's for sure.

That combi is so oversized, it's really silly. Covers all the nice detail on the body too.

I sort of forget what you've seen already. Hopefully something new here!
And pishposh. We're equal at least.

I really like the biker, just not the bike. Silly as it is, it really needs lots of splotches, lines, slogans etc all over it. The TAG, in contrast, is right next to flawless. No tips, no criticisms, just pure WOW factor here!

Wirecat, I think you're 100% correct honestly. I need to Akira those bikes up. I struggled with the red but it looka very undetailed. I think I'll take your suggestion.

And thanks so much!

Finally reached a point in our group where we have too much terrain for one table. Next terrain project is a Paradiso jungle, suitable for the next army projects we are going to undertake too. Guess which ones.

Now that is the battlefield photo that asks to be enlarged and scrolled about! Very nice collection, with variety and still in about the same style. Congrats!

And looking forward.

I quite like our collection of stuff, good job!

I won't guess the next armies, though, since I know all the answers.
