Subject: When can GW "retire" a model

So obviously GW will retire a metal or finecast sculpt if a new plastic comes out. A good example coming up is the new Lord of Change/Fateweaver kit. I believe the FW finecast has sold out and I don't even see the old LoC model on the website anymore.
But what about when a model has been "effectively" but not "officially" replaced?
The specific example I am talking about is the Tz Herald on Disc
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Daemons-of-Chaos-Herald-of-Tzeentch-on-Disc-WH
Why is that failcrap model still available when this exists?
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Daemons-of-Chaos-Herald-of-Tzeentch-on-Burning-Chariot-WH
And the hilarious thing is that the Chariot Herald costs the same. Just put it on a smaller base without the Screamers. Done
Or get the new Disciples on Tzeentch Enlightened on Discs? Which need no conversion to be good looking Heralds
Are there any other models like this that are still available from GW that are just redundant?
Why do you think these models are still being produced?

They may not still be being produced, but rather there's a whole bunch of them in a warehouse somewhere that they'll sell through before removing the link.

Yeah I think asmodai is right, there is still 1 metal eldar warlock on sale when there used to be a bunch of different casts. They have been replaced with finecast.

Hopefully they continue to replace old models with the new plastic. I really like the new stuff. Super glue makes my fingers sad :(

If that is the case, then they really need to lower the price on that Herald. Since it is the same price as the Chariot, there is zero reason for anyone to buy it over just getting the Chariot.

Some people might prefer that Herald over the Chariot. I mean, they're wrong, but some people might prefer it, and GW isn't gonna mulch all the unsold models if they can sell them instead.

Great comment!
With the Tzaangor Enlightened on Discs kit coming out, you can now get 3 "Heralds" for less than the price of that 1 super ugly finecast one.
So if GW was hoping to "get rid of their stock", I feel they may be disappointed
