Seems I'm a few days behind on this, but on the 16th A Magnus lead daemon prince army (that was technically chaos Marines but more on that latter) with a double handful of horrors in an attached CAD won a GT (scarab 40k). Blurbs on the battles and the list used can be found at spikey bits (https://spikeybits.com/2017/01/magnus-storms-the-scarab-40k-gt.html) but they are basically the only one who has info about it up. I say it's a sorta chaos space marines list because the formations comes from the wrath of magnus, and the lord of war in traitors hate, but mechanically this is the next iteration of chaos demons summoning shenanigans. As such, not to belittle what is always an amazing feat of finishing first in a GT, the list is from the group of factions we expect to finish first at a GT (chaos deamons, tau, eldar, marines and necrons), so there is not really much that's noteworthy other than it's the first time Magnus lead such a list,. I think this is a taste of things to come, as we will see this and a few variations on this list at the upcoming LVO.

Before everyone gets on the magnus is OP bandwagon, this style of list works perfectly well without magnus and has taken several GT wins before him. I think we will also continue to see holdouts of the old style summoning list as people may not be comfortable with this low of a model count. On a side note, it would be a really really good time for grey knights to not suck so hard they could be mistaken for a black hole. The chapter of Janus (Who may or may not be Omegon), really deserve better, and this could be a time for them to shine.

This was a good read. I'm not surprised a list like this won, but I am a little surprised to see magnus. For his points you can take belakor and fateweaver. I would have pegged the oracles formation as being better. Not having to roll for the winds of chaos is probably a big factor.

Lists like this are killer. In games about holding objectives they spawn units all over them, and in games with kill points they can just buff up to not die. I fully expect to see a lot of daemon domination to come. Curse of the wulfen, and wrath of magnus gave a bunch of new powerful tools to an already top tier army. Paradox's and pink horrors are both nuts. Comparatively necrons, and eldar have gotten nothing. Space marines have gotten some new spells that are pretty good. Warcons have gotten some stuff from imperial agents, and perhaps even planetary assault.. None of this holds a candle to what daemons have gotten.

The player talked a lot about his princes shooting when he was not summoning. I wonder what witch fires he was rolling for?

I hope he made those warcon players salty.

So I suppose it was a good thing to make sure my Onagers have Icarus Arrays at all times.

Aye, kinda but not really. Not a single Chaos Space Marine in that list.

I kinda feel the traditional summoning list is probably a bit more robust, but it's fun to see a daemon primarch on the table of major tournaments. As for salty warconvos I hear their tear ducts are the first thing removed, which leaves them with only the desire to serve their C'Tan... err omnissiah who is totally not a C'Tan and is cool with the emperor.
