I just found this Ace hardware primer, red oxide, and I loves it. Ace primer goes on thin, so it's nice for preserving details. But... I have no paints like it that I can match up with!

It's a brownish red (and oddly enough, google returns no photos of it alone...)

Does Games Workshop make a red oxide? I don't need a perfect match, as it'll likely get covered with wash and other colors... But I don't have anything even close

It's the one in the middle

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

I think Army Painter used to make this brownish red that looks decently similar, I loved that stuff but it's OOP so probably not what you're looking for. For some reason my brain keeps thinking Dragon Red but I know that's not it.

I'd say take a look in your local Ace and look for Automotive Primers, they come in a fairly broad range of colours (At least, they do here in Malaysia) and so long as you don't go crazy they're plenty thin for miniatures.

Sorry I can't offer anything concrete, but often when looking for sprays it's just the inefficient process of trial and error.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

Maybe this? German WW2 tanks used a Red Oxide primer so a lot of the colours for scale models will be trying to match that German colour, which may or may not be a good match for the Ace Hardware colour, lol.

Doombull Brown (GW) is fairly close although perhaps a tad darker.

Vallejo probably has something like it. At a glance Cavalry Brown looks close, but I'd imagine they have a red oxide colour in their Panzer Aces like or something.

Vallejo Model Colour have a few in and around that tone. Black Red, Burnt Cadmium Red, Hull Red, Cavalry Brown as mentioned above

Army Painter Chaotic Red might work or Reaper Master Series Deep Red.
