Hello, Im new to the hobby and as it says in the title, am trying to make an IG army. Painting the figures is not a problem, but I would like something that I can field that feels unique.

What part of the army are you interested in? Mechanized Infantry? Armoured Companies? Soviet style human wave with artillery to back it up?

~5000 points of IG and DKoK

I'm awful at reading private messages, so just reply to the threads I'm visiting.

Human Wave with some Support from Armour. Mind you I also want something other than Cadians. While I am new to 40k, I'm not that new to modeling itself. So far, i haven't really liked the Cadians.

Victoria Miniatures has nice Guard models. The Forgeworld Elysians and Death Korps are also good. GW makes Steel Legion, Vostroyans, Mordians, and Tallarn, which are also good, but all metal and with weapons of dubious usefulness.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

madrobot miniatures all the way, huge variation! they convert with cadian parts easily, or just go full 3rd party with their squads.

Well I feel like nobody stated the obvious, but check out Catachans. They are very different from Cadians and are still sold by GW

GW still sells a box of 10 models for (IIRC, can't access GW at work) $40. You can see what they look like there or google search for images. That will tell you what they look like.

If you mean how do they play, they do not (to my knowledge) have any special rules right now and would just use the IG codex.

Thanks for all the replys. What I have done is buy some Cadians and paint them up more in a desert fashion, buying a few slouch hats and bare arms to make them more unique. As well, with some light dry brushing, I've made them have a more of a look that appears like they had gone through some salt flats.
