Hello everyone, new to the forum but not to the game. If I mess up technically I apologize in advance. I decided to start recording my progress with my Thousand Sons. I originally started this army back in August with this:

Back before GW released the new thousand sons sprues. The idea was to use the Heresy Era armor that the Ksons got trapped inside, with a little sprinkling of thousand sons flair on them. Below are some of the early pieces.

Here they are painted up:

And the now Sorcerer Kurtha Sedd:

And one with his squad:

Well, now that I've got more free time I'm resurrecting the project. Stay tuned for more.

Very nice start, looking forward to the next update If I had to critique however, I'd redo the capes and tabards, the highlights could be crisper and blended better, I suggest a couple of thin coats of purple wash.

Thanks Valkyrie! Yes I suppose I could do a little bit of glazing on the capes. Unfortunately, thats going to have to be put on hold for a moment. I've decided to try to finish my 1250 list for a tournament in February. Here's the list if anyone is interested.

Spoiler:

Thousand Sons 1250 CAD

HQ
Ahriman: 230 pts
Exaulted Sorcerer- Mastery Level 3, Astral Grimoire, Spell Familiar :230 pts

Troops
Rubric Marines- Aspiring Sorcerer w/ meltabombs, 8 rubric marines w/ inferno bolters: 247 pts
(Rhino: 35 pts)
Rubric Marines- Aspiring Sorcerer w/ meltabombs, 8 rubric marines w/ inferno bolters, 1 rubric marine w/ soulreaper cannon :295 pts
Tzaangors- 10 tzaangors: 70 pts

Heavy Support
Chaos Predator- twin linked lascannon turret, sponson lascannons: 140 pts

TOTAL: 1247 pts

Concept is simple, Ahriman rolls around with the Rubrics in the Rhino. The Exaulted Sorcerer joins with the Rubrics on foot (giving them Jump). The predator hangs back to crack transports for my rubrics and sorcery to murder the occupants. The Tzaangors hang back as a cheap home-station objective holder. I realize its not the most optimal list, but it works well with what I have at my disposel.

And here is some progress on said list. To start, a Rhino.

The pictures are a little dark, but i did pick out every rivet on the model with a toothpick using gold paint. In person it offers a decent contrast to all the blue. I am hoping when I put the decal transfers on it, that will also help break up the blue monotony.

I also got Ahriman done

Unfortunately, my cat decided to turn his staff into a chew toy. So I had to improvise.

I finished the first five tzaangors. Instead of going out and spending money on ten guys (70 point unit) I decided to convert them from the old WHFB Gor box. I was nervous until they were done being painted, now I'm excited to finish the squad. I think they turned out perfectly Tzeentchian.

I also finished my 2nd aspiring sorcerer with four of his rubrics.

Finally, a sample of whats to come. Thus far I have finished assembling, priming, and basing the remaining five Tzaangors, the remaining five Rubrics, the Exalted Sorcerer and his Spell Familiar, and the Predator. Since my friend gave me a box of the new Rubrics for Christmas, I decided to paint my remaining five being the new ones:

As always, comments and criticisms are welcome

Following this list, I am looking to unwind after pushing myself to get this list done with. So I am looking for suggestions on what to paint next. I did convert a suitibly bird-tzeentchian demon prince, but I also have the Contemptor dread and five Terminators. I also plan on picking up Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower this tax season, as the game itself looks fun, and painting characters and small groups of models is always a fun way to recharge after mono-tone color armies.

(P.S. If anyone has a tutorial on making a small lightbox for taking pictures of models. I have been having a heck of a time getting acceptable pictures. Any help would be appreciated.)

Not much of an update today, I took a quick trip to my LGS to pick up a few paints and this happened.

Yeah, fun times. Whats even better is since I have the old Ahriman on foot model already painted I wont need to magnetize the disk and base, which is always nice. Unfortunately, due to military commitments I wont be able to go to the 1250 tourny in Feb. So hopefully I can enjoy painting a 1500 point list before the March tournament and not feel rushed with it.

Happy Casting

Hey everyone, quick WIP update.

Heres some guys from GWs new Rubrics box

And the soul reaper cannon.

And finally, in a shout out to Valkyrie, I took your advice and gave another purple wash on the tabards and capes.

The models are amazing sculpts, a real treat to paint. However, for the next five I'm going to do the gold work before the blue. As far as the rest of the army is concerned, I plan on repainting the eyes green instead of orange, after I finish these next five rubrics. Once these five are done Ill have a completed two 10 man squads, so Ill be doing transfers on all of them. As always, C&C is welcome.

vaasen , the netherlands

Looks good just a question what will you do for unit markings? And something you could do is line work pick out the lines to give the blue marines a bit more. Or you could paint lightning on them in purple to break them up a bit.

the banner is click able. it takes you to a magical country. if you don't believe me click and see for your self

I like the ideas, although lightning screams more Night Lords and not Thousand Sons. As far as unit markings are concerned, there will be none. I will however be using the thousand sons transfers on every model, as well as the glyph transfers that came in the BAC box sparingly. Just to break up some of the blue.

New Update today folks. A converted Thousand Sons Exalted Sorcerer. I drew my inspiration from the 2nd Ahriman novel, but for the life of me cannot remember the characters name. He wielded two swords, one Force, one Power. I wont spoil the end of his character story, but the books are quite good (past the first IMHO). The basis of the conversion is a pair of Dark Angels Veteran Robed legs, a thousand sons rubric torso and backpack, a book from the grey knights kit. The force sword is made from an elf wizard sword, and the hand from the old thousand sons sorcerer.

Here's the beginning of the conversion with the force sword.

And a base I made with some old elf bits and cork.

Now the issue. Keep a bolt pistol in the off hand and throw an old elf sheathed blade on the belt line or put the BAC sword on the off hand and put a holstered pistol on instead. There is also two different heads in the next four pictures that I cant decide between. I could really use some help.

Decisions decisions. Any comments would help me make those decisions.

Well, if the character is known for having two swords, I think you know the answer!

True Asmodai, but only inspiration dictates it. Plus he would still have two swords, just one of them sheathed if I didnt keep the power sword in his hand. I am just curious which looks better with the force sword.

Hey everyone, hope all is well.

So, played two 1500 point games with the army (check spoilers below for the list). One against eldar, one against orks. Lost terribly to both . Eldar out psykered me with an incredible amount of speed, with D-cannons forcing me to go to them. Incredibly competitive list. Orks just outnumbered me and got into combat early, I did get invisibility on Ahriman and the unit he was with, so I had to make him work for his kills lol.

Spoiler:

Thousand Sons Grand Coven:

War Coven-

Ahriman on disk
Exalted Sorcerer w/ ML3, Astral Grimior, Spell Familiar
Rubrics- aspiring sorc w/ meltabombs, 1 soulreaper cannon, 8 inferno bolters
Rubrics- aspiring sorc, 1 soulreaper cannon, 8 inferno bolters
(Rhino)
Scarab Occult Terminators- scarab occult sorcerer, 4 w/ power swords/ combi bolters

Legion Armory
Chaos Predator- TL lascannon, sponson lascannons

For starters, I made a decision on the Exalted Sorcerer. Went with the two swords thing and finished his base.

Secondly, I dug out some of my old fantasy chaos spawn, stripped the paint off them, and repainted and rebased one of them. I have no intention of using them as a unit, but with the various powers that have the ability to create spawn, having two painted ones around is never a bad thing. Heres just one of them. I apologize for the pictures.

I finished two more Rubrics, which brings me to two 10 man squads, each with an aspiring sorcerer and a soulreaper cannon. Instead of taking a picture of another two rubrics, I decided to do a picture of everything thats painted. I intend to redo their eyes and put the transfers on them as a group.

I also finished Ahrimans Disk. If I ever paint another disk of Tzeentch (which, lets face it, I will) I will be painting it unassembled and seperate from the base, because this was a pain.

Now whats to come. Converted Scarab Occult Terminators:

The 2nd chaos spawn:

A predator:

And Ahriman himself:

Stay Tuned

Hey guys, sorry for the long time no update. I started working nights, so finding the time to paint is hard, let alone the time to post progress. But I've got a large post to make up for it. To start, here's the finished Aspiring Sorcerer with two swords conversion.

Now, here's a newly converted Aspiring Sorcerer on a "disk" of Tzeentch.

The concept of floating rocks seemed to fit the sorcerous feel of the Thousand Sons. I had been searching for a way to create Thousand Sons bikers to give Ahriman a retinue, yet mere bikes seemed far too mundane for the sorcerers of the Thousand Sons. So I came up with these guys.

After a dismal failure at using the GW transfer sheets, and many attempts at trying to make them work, I gave up and tried my hand at some freehand, I think I've got the recipe down to replicate it across the entire army. It isnt the cleanest, but I like it much more then the folded glossy effect the transfers give me.

Also managed to start painting these guys. Heres an early PIP picture of them.

So I've been contemplating the army from a gaming standpoint, and the one thing a mono Tzeentch list needs are demons, I picked up a box of Pink Horrors and I was gifted a Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch for my birthday (which I planned on subbing as a Herald on a Disk). Heres a PIP of the Horrors.

I planned on picking up the Demons of Tzeentch Get Started boxed set next. That will give me the Screamers and 10 more Horrors to flush out the squad. It also leaves me with a Herald on Foot and a Burning Chariot for summoning. Hopefully Flamers of Tzeentch become useful in the new edition, otherwise they might just become a fun side project or conversion fodder.

AND FINALLY

The Lord of the XV Legion, The Crimson King, Magnus the Red.

Heres a close up of his base.

And a close up of his face.

As always, C&C is welcome and encouraged. Thanks for reading.
