Well, hot on the heels of my other IG test figure, here is a stormtrooper for my industrial light infantry themed guard army! When I got to the plasma gun, I decided to be alittle wild and experiment with OSL, or Object Source Lighting. After alittle research, I got to work, and after about 3.5 hours I had finished the figure... entirely too long for a guardsman I know, but oh well

I was really proud of the result, but the camera is an evil device and makes my efforts look sub-par.. guess I just need more practice

Without further delay, here he is..

I have 8 plasma guns in my 1000pt list, so I have quite abit of work ahead of me, eh?

Comments welcome!

I like everything except the OSL. While it's a good idea, there's not enough around the gun to make the OSL lighting look convinging. i.e. there's not enough stuff for the light to reflect off of. Even so, I look forwards to seeing the rest of it!

cheers

wow really nice job, i like how you had the glow of the plasma reflect onto the nearby parts of the trooper, keep up the good work

I think the OSL is just fine. It's prominant enough to look cool but not so much as to dominate the figure.

Any plans to show us the rest of the finished squad?

I'm actually fond of the fact that there's isn't too much
cast light on the figure. Sometimes I think OSL can be
over-the-top where the cast lighting bathes the figure in
light even though the figure is not divine.

Oklahoma City, Ok.

i think it's a nice job.

personally don't like the OSL, though.

for the very reason you mentioned, you have 7-8 more to do!

I like it however you should take away the OSL from the 2-3 top fingers. They seem to be further "in front of" the plasma coils.

i actually like the way it came out man,
gives me the impression he just fired and the coils are cooling down a little so not to overheat and *pop*.

Cheers everyone B)

It is interesting to see the different viewpoints on the OSL... it was alot of fun to paint though, so I will continue to do it on the other figures.

I will indeed show the rest of the squad, once they are complete!

Very cool! I think with this and your other guardsman you've got a good thing going here. As long as you don't get burned out don't worry about the time it takes for each trooper. I spend alot of time on my guys, and even though they aren't the best out there, they are definately above normal table quality. If you've got an entire force painted to the level of these two guys you'll probably be the bell of the ball on most nights at the game store.

I want an overheated plasma gun with OSL coming out his insides. That would
be gruesomely cool.
