I'd like to make some of the marines look a bit more dynamic.

I found this guide but the mkIII legs don't have ribbed sections at the joints.

That's a sweet tutorial! I'd pretty much just go off that with your best discretion and remember to fill gaps with GS and then just smooth it out instead of carving ribs into them. Should look suitable!
