Is this possible? I found no restriction in the book to say I can not make this formation a 1k sons formation, but battle scribe says other wise. It is usually spot on, but sometimes it gets it wrong. Am I missing something. As my understaning of the rules is, other than the detachments, you can say any formation or army is (insert legion here) and there fore get access to the relics and other goodies from that legion. So why would this be a restriction?

I thought it was Black Legion only. The only times I have seen TS players take it is with a BL CAD.

All formations in all new suppliments say may you may take any formation and say it is this legion. All I have to do is follow the rules of the legion such as all have VotLW and MoT in this instance. It is a formation out of the Black Legion book and Traitor Legions suppliment., but most of those formations repeat into the legion formations.

Yep, never mind I found it. Reading is Fundamental.

If the Formation from the Traitor Legions book, lists the Cyclopean Cabal as a 'Chaos' formation, and not a 'Black Legion' formation, then yes, you should be able to take it as part of a Thousand Sons detachment. Personally I don't see why you shouldn't be able to, fluff wise, considering that these guys would most likely be Thousand Sons Sorcerers to begin with.

Personally, I wouldn't bother making them a TS formation: you're forced to take mark of Tz and therefore forced to take a power from the Change discipline. Better to run them unmarked (possibly in one of the none God legions for fearless plus other benefits) to make full use of ML3 and get psychic focus.

But to repeat what has been said, and found by the OP - you can't take it as another legion. It is a Black Legion formation.
