Evening all,

I'm getting back in to 40K after 12 years or so and have opted to field Orks. I've read the Codex and watched a number of battle reports to see how 7th runs. It certainly seems Orks have a few issues, but then I guess so do most.

I'm trying to put together a list that isn't going to get rolled over (as you'll see it's very much an Assault based army), but at the same time is fun to play and includes a variety of models. The club I'll be playing at doesn't take things too seriously! Any feedback you can give on the individual selections / how the list would work collectively would be greatly appreciated.

Ork Horde Detachment - 1847 points

HQ

War Boss (Warlord) - 140 points
Bosspole, Da Lucky Stikk, Power Klaw, Warbike

Painboy - 80 points
Bosspole, Warbike

Painboy - 80 points
Bosspole, Warbike

Troops

3x
10x Boyz, 1x Boss Nob with Bosspole & Power Klaw, Trukk with reinforced ram and Rokkit Launcha - 141 points

Elites

Meganobz - 1x Boss Meganob with Bosspole and kill saws, 2x Meganobz with PK & Kombi-Skorcha
Battlewagon, Kannon and reinforced ram - 270 points

9x Tankbustas + 1x Boss Nob with Bosspole, Trukk with reinforced ram and Rokkit Launcha - 180 points

Fast Attack

10x warbikerz - 180 points

15x Stormboyz, 1x Stormboy Nob with Bosspole and PK - 184 points

1x Deffkopta - 30 points

Heavy Support

2x
10x Lootas - 140 points

General thoughts:

Warboss and Painboy to join the Warbikerz.
Second Painboy to join the Stormboyz
Deffkopta is Objsec and could be useful.
Is the Battelwagon for the Meganobz needed? I think I need the firepower so could it be replaced by a Trukk and a couple of Mek gunz?
I minded to keep the 3x 10 boyz / Trukk as I've already bought them. Also, I like the Stormboy models so would like to keep them in as well, although the number could easily change.

Cheers!

With only 3 meganobz a trukk is better than a battlewagon. Deffkoptas are not obj sec as they're fast attacks.

Looks like a solid list that you'll enjoy playing and have a good chance of success with. Without building a list around shooting, which is expensive and fairly lacklustre, there's quite a few targets that we struggle to deal with from range. In a list like this you only really need to make sure you can open up transports so you can assault the unit inside. Your Lootas and Tankbustas should suffice for this, but if you feel like you want more shooting you could swap the Battlewagon for a Trukk, reduce the size of the Tankbusta squad and add another one or two minimum 'busta squads (take the bomb squigs as well) and possibly another small Loota squad. On the subject of Lootas, you may as well take them in either multiple units of 5 or keep the same number of squads but reduce them to 9 men units. A unit of 10 will have to take a Leadership test after losing 3 models, which is the same number of casualties a unit of 9 has to suffer before taking that test. It just helps mitigate how big a loss you suffer if the unit does happen to run away. Lootas struggle to take advantage of Mob Rule so if they fail that test they will be running away.

I also love the Stormboyz models and use them every so often but don't expect too much of them. They can be quite handy for providing cover saves to your Trukks if you're not able to move them up the board behind things that block line of sight, or alternatively gaining a cover save from the Trukks depending on which is more valuable/vulnerable.

There's no way to give a Deffkopta Objective Secured sadly but they are still very useful for claiming objectives that aren't otherwise contested.

Blackie, xlDuke, thanks for the feedback.

If I reduced the Tankbusta Squad, would you still take a Trukk?

I've played around and could fit it in like this:

Drop the Meganobz' Battlewagon (and replace with a Trukk with RR)
Drop one Stormboy.
Drop 1 Loota from each 10 man unit.
Reduce the Tankbustas to 4 plus a Boss Nob (Bosspole), plus a Bomb Squig and still take a Trukk with RR.
Take another identical Tankbusta unit.
Take another 5 man Loota unit.

Comes out at exactly 1850.

Ah, my mistake on the Deffkopta.

Definitely! Min squads of tankbustas in trukks are really nice. If you take units of five drop the nob, those are expendable squads, keep them cheap. Adding bomb squigs can be useful. 5 tankbustas in a trukk with 3 bomb squigs are only 115 points, and have an average of 4 s8 hits with tankhunter. I typically include 2-3 of those min units of tankbustas at 1850 points if i don't take battlewagons.
