Hey guys,
So I'm pretty new to the game and I'm building up my first Necron army to a 1000 points to start out and play some actual objective games.
Here is what I have so far:
1 Overlord
6 Scarabs
24 Warriors
1 Stalker
1 Ghost Ark
What would be my best choices to add on to this? Go for the units that give me Decurion I'm assuming? Not looking to build a huge pro competitive army, just something that can hang and get me into some small local games.
Not a huge fan of the wraith and spider models, would Praetorians be a good close combat alternative and pair them with the Stalker for a Judicator Batallion?
Also what should I equip my HQ Overlord with in this setup so far? Should I put him in a unit of warriors or run him solo?
Thanks

Lychguard and pretorians are both good at cc now. An overlord with lychguard and orikan can form a nasty death star with a guaranteed 2+ re rollable. Plenty of warsythes or 3++ make this an early unkillable unit.
The justicar is good, you want to run 2 stalkers probably since they are easy to focus down to keep the bonus. It also helps that the models are big and so make the bubble of bs+1 that much bigger.
Destroyer cult is also good but probably too expensive for you...

You should probably build towards a Reclamation Legion and a Judicator Battalion for a start! I suggest some Tomb Blades for sure, since they are one of our best units and some pretty neat models as well.
To answer your question, of course the Prets are sufficient for assault. You can skip the wraiths if you don't like them. I'd also go for Lychguard, since I really like the models and they give a reason to my Reclamation Legion overlord to exist, otherwise he's just useless.
So Reclamation Legion + Lychguard and a Judicator Battalion should make for a sweet list, for your case I believe.
Your Overlord is very hard to utilise right now, since they usually want to find themselves in Close Combat and the warriors don't. Before you get a Lychguard unit you can throw him in, I suggest using him as Zahndrekh for the Tactical bonuses and sticking him with a warrior squad to beef up.

This is good info too necr0n, thank you! What loadouts would you suggest for the Prets and Lych? Rods or void blades? Sword and board or warscyth?
I'm going to have to get Tomb Blades to finish the Rec Legion. Eh, and a unit of Immortals apparently
The Deathmarks are the coolest looking Necron model available in my opinion, I want to eventually get some. Later on the priority list for effectiveness?

The best advice I can give you to help you build your army is to proxy. Proxy your models to see if you like Prets, see if you like Lychguard, see if you like Deathmarks. Check if Rods work out better for you or Void blades. Play both!
Obviously, you could buy Deathmarks, even before Prets. They have a formation of their own. (a single Deathmark squad) and they can together with a Reclamation Legion form a Decurion. Then, you could add the Judicator Battalion to that.
Honestly, it's a matter of preference, I just suggested Lychguard because I like them.
Besides that, I'll tell you the following:
For the Judicator Battalion, you'll need two Pret squads. Why not go 1 Rod and 1 Void?
For the Lychguard, they are generally more usefull with their shields as a bodyguard unit that's very hard to die. They should have at least 1 or 2 HQ's(with warscythes or voidreaper) inside so they become killy too and they also need a Veil of Darkness to teleport them to enemy lines, because moving 6" a turn won't get them in assault.
The warscythe version is harder to make use of, since a lack of invulnerable save will more often than not mean they will die to a round of Grav fire, before getting the chance to assault anything.
So, go with 1 Tomb Blade unit and 2 Immortal units! And you can build the one Immortal squad into Deathmarks! If you like the Lychguard idea, go for the Lychguard too, but it's quite an investment points wise, as you will need more characters to make it effective. I say try things out first!
