Step 1 for my son of Horus, advice would be much appreciated. Will be taking The Long March RoW. The vets will be outflanking, the rest will be on foot and the apothacarys will be with the tacs.

No idea what your meta is like. Why build a 1,000 point army when 30K is barely playable at 2,000 and plays the best at 3,000, with a sweet spot of 2,500? At 1,000 points, there isn't a lot you can do or take. I'd go with a Praetor, Paragon Blade, Iron Halo, and Digital Weapons.

Apothecaries are good, though I probably wouldn't get Augry Scanners.

Do you have a Contemptor Dread? A Mortis Contemptor with two Kheres Assault Cannons would be way better. But this would be the first model I'd drop to pay for other points elsewhere.

The Vets are... if you want a shooty unit with meltaguns, use a Legion Support Squad with 5x Meltaguns. Or make these guys into a Seeker Squad. The Vets are better as a close combat unit supporting your HQ then what you have them as now. The Sergeant doesn't have Artificer Armor... the Sarge (and anyone that can really) should get Artificer Armor.

I'd say take a Command Squad or a Reaver Squad in this case first.

Tacticals are good, though my personal belief is they should be 10 or 20 models. 15 is a compromise that does nothing for you.

You have no mobility, no way to get to objectives quickly. At 1,000 points, you might be better off going down to two 10x Tact Squads and giving them Rhinos with Multimeltas, and do the same for the Command Squad+Praetor, keep one Apothecay, and get rid of the Dreadnought. Or Drop the Dread, upgrade to the Praetor, retool the Vets for close combat, and get them a Rhino with a Multimelta.

As you step up in points, you'll probably never use the that version of a Dread, the Command Squad will become a Seeker Squad, and your Consul will be put aside for a Praetor or the Primarch himself.

All valid points, bare in mind this is just a starting point, I'm not someone who's willing to buy a 2000pt army in one go, hence why I start at 1000pts and work up in reasonable intervals.
