I recently perpetrated an act of thread necromancy this I do not apologise for as the whole thread necromancy thing does not work to the advantage of the forum's comunity. I understand and agree that old posts should be available to read but not to post on, for all the reasons stated in the "What is thread necromancy and why is it bad" forum rule/explanation, but there is more that could be done to prevent it's occurrence.
If you have issues like this, make a post in the
Nuts & Bolts forum and the moderation team will directly address it.
As it stands,it is unclear how long a thread must lie dormant before it dies
While you are techincally correct, I can promise you that a thread that has been dead for almost
seven years qualifies as "long enough."
Having an absolute maximum time that a thread can be dormant before it dies in the forum rules would solve this problem. secondly, aren't the monitoring staff suposed to close the thread and put one of those no entry signs on it so you know you can read it but not post on it? I am fully aware it would be an impossible task to trawl through the whole forum for every dead thread. I would not want to take on such a task.
No, the moderation staff isn't going to start locking old threads and they shouldn't because as you yourself admit, it would be extremely difficult and time consuming to do it. It's really not hard to look at the the dates on the thread to see if it's been dead for a long time.
But how about when an instance of thread necromancy takes place you immediately block said thread so no one else can make the same mistake. But don't go shoving in bold red letters that someone perpetrated an act of thread necromancy on there as it is belittling to the person in question and i s essentially trolling. I have never come across a case of thread necromancy that wasn't accidental and as such should not be treated as an offence against the forum. accidents happen.
Dude, grow up. The moderators engage in discussion across the forum just like everyone else and the colored letters are used for when they put their "mod hats" on. Having a thread locked isn't a big deal and you aren't being "punished."
I will have to waist additional thread space with a question that I'm fairly confidant has already been answered in some unlocatable corner of Dakka.
If you have a question, you aren't wasting "thread space" on a board designed for asking questions and discussion.
