Hello Fello gamers,
Looking to venture into the realms of 30k and looking at iron warriors.
I have currently the betrayal of calth boxset and a leviathan siege dreadnought in the painting at the moment.
Can anyone give me so good pointers/ advice on how i can build a semi-competitive list and what lords of war are worth the money/points?
Any help, i would be greatful for. P.s I'm not looking for someone to build me a list as thats lazy.
Thank you in advance.

Hey man,
Ok so you have a solid start with 30 marines and the leviathan. That will be a good start getting comfortable with all the hazard stripes and such haha.
But forewarned Iron warriors armies quickly get expensive. Lots of tanks, artillery, and large lords of war.
At the end of the day though it really depends on your play style, how competitive you want to get, and what fluff you like about the iron warriors.
I am a tanker in real life so I am drawn towards the mechanized armies (sicarans, venators, laser vindicators etc) combined with artillery, missiles, barrage etc.
Tyrant siege terminators with a siege breaker, iron havocs with missile launchers, medusa's, whirlwind scorpius, and quad batteries are savage. Also sicarans are very versatile. venators are sick. lasor vidicators are cheap anti tank.
For lords of war I can only speak to a few that I have. Mainly tanks.
1. I have Perturabo (class, and a must buy, plus sick model)
2. typhon (very beast. It just exudes Iron warriors and breaking the heck out of crap. (my favorite model) Great for that 2,000 to 2,500 points. s10 ap 1 massive blast, no cover.... ar14 all around, but only 6 hullpoints)
3.Fellblade (12 hullpoints, very versatile, so many guns, main gun can use a s8 ap 3 massive blast troop killer or s9 ap2 3in blast anti tank killer, hull mounted demolisher siege cannon, 2 quad twin linked lascannons, and beautiful model.)
4. stormblade (imposing model also, main gun can use a rapid shot for 2 str 8 ap 2 massive blasts, or an overload shot at str 10 ap 2 apocalyptic blast. pretty nutts.

Welcome to the 4th Legion! Look to your left, now look to your right, now look at 7 other people around you. By the end of this class one of you will be beaten to death by the other 9.
That basically sums up the Iron Warriors. No tears for the fallen, choke their rivers with our dead, victory at any and all cost. Spend your mens' lives to achieve your objective and don't give it a second though.
Generally, IW shrug off casualties from shooting without taking leadership tests, so big squads of tacticals are a solid choice, but this benefits all of your non-vehicle units.
Both of their unique RoW are solid choices.
If you like the sound of big foot slogging (or Spartan riding) tactical squads then consider the Hammer of Olympia RoW,which lets you rapid fire and charge (though in a disordered fashion) and you get a 4th heavy support choice at the cost of no Astartes allies and being forced to take a 3rd compulsory troop.
Their other RoW is The Iron Fire, which lets you roll only 1D6 for scattering barrage weapons within 12" of your units, and then makes any units within 6" the center of your barrage fearless until your next turn. This is super powerful, almost too powerful considering how good barrage weapons are in 30K and how most Legions have very little access to fearless or even stubborn.
You're off to a good start with those kits.
I am a big fan of Tyrant Siege Terminators, they pour a crazy amount of fire and are as good as any cataphractii terminators in CC, which is to say great.
Havocs are also solid, they got a good boost at BS5 now and have Tank Hunter stock, they make good use of MLs, Las cannons and auto-cannons.
In the overall Legion Astartes army list there aren't a lot of "bad" choices, so you can really go with what you like. My advice is to take a read through the army book and pick out some units you're interested in and people here can weigh in on good ways to run/equip them.

One thing I never see mentioned with iron warriors is shrapnel ammo on heavy bolters. Near enough every tank comes with at least one stock, so I always switch to shrapnel rounds. You'll force plenty of pinning tests, which won't often be failed, but they will now and again, and it puts more pressure on as your army implacably advances through a curtain of iron fire.

Honestly i generally run with a few squads of havocs and a unit of tyrants and then fill up on whatever seems fun. Automatically Appended Next Post: However ill point out something for Mortambro, a Typhon is a super heavy.
