Hey gamers...

Firstly as you may know a Necron Ghost Ark has 2 separate arrays of Gauss Flayers, x5 sticking out of one side and x5 on the other.

So today I'm playing a game and it's my shooting phase. I HAVEN'T moved and as my Ghost Ark is Salvo 5/10 I get the 10. So I fire 10 shots in total, 5 from each side. Did I shoot correctly?

My opponent laughed and insisted... "EACH ARRAY is Salvo 5/10, meaning if a vehicle doesn't move it would get 20 shots in total". ...To which I replied, but a vehicle is relentless so if that was true it would always be 20? So who would they call it Salvo 5/10 at all if it could never be 5?

Is this true? Can a Ghost Ark fire 20 shots per turn and if so why make it so confusing with the Salvo? Surely Heavy 10 would be better fitting.

Thanks!

You did not shoot correctly. Your opponent is correct.

Currently Snap Shooting does absolutely nothing to reduce a Salvo Weapon. Vehicle Movement does absolutely nothing to reduce a Salvo Weapon. The ability to split its fire does nothing to reduce the Ghost Ark's Salvo weapons.

For all intents and purposes, Salvo Weapons are Assault (second number) for Vehicles, and the Ghost Ark has two of them. All Weapons fired must be fired at their full rate and you cannot skimp on them. The only way to limit their weight of fire is by having a Weapon not shoot at all.

As to why they made them Salvo? I couldn't say. It is possible that the rules regarding Vehicles and Salvo may change, at which point it will be set up to take advantage of it. Considering they used to be Rapid Fire x5, this only great for you, the Necron player.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

In my opinion it's only Salvo due to fluff considerations.

And for the potential for that weapon to be used on something else in the future.

As stated, each array fires 10 shots. Relentless makes the salvo portion negligible. Ignore it.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

The Ghost Arks Gauss arrays are 5/10 Salvo Split Fire to be exact. Each side of the Ghost Ark can shoot a different unit as long as both side can draw line of sight to a target unit. What makes shooting the Ghost Ark awkward is that you need to shoot it as broad side. So you need to expose your side armor to the enemy which increases the chance of you opponent positioning to hit against your rear armor. Usually you will only end up shooing one side. If you manage to position to shoot both sides there's high probability your Ghost Ark wont survive the next turn.

What do you mean Snap Shooting does absolutely nothing to reduce a Salvo Weapon? Wouldn't a snap shooting model that is firing with Salvo-type weapons need 6s to hit, as with any other weapon?

He means that it doesn´t effect the number of shots fired

Neither of you are correct fully. Each side fires 10 shots at the full 24" range. There is no effect to the number of shots fired when moving as a vehicle is relentless (depending how far you move may mean you are snap firing).

Exept, if you did move, one side would have to snap-fire. So 10 normal shots and 10 snapshots, correct?

Can´t remember exactly how many weapons a skimmer can fire up to 6". But they still don´t reduce the number of shots which was what the OP was hinting towards.

Skimmer makes no difference. Yes, at least one array will be at snapshots if you've moved (not including pivoting).

cheers wasn´t sure if it was both the skimmer rule and the fast rule that increased the number weapons fired normally or just fast rule.
