I'm brand-new to the war-games scene and dakka. i don't even actually own any mini's yet. I'm looking more at the intimate paint jobs, the conversions and kit bashing, making custom gak really. I'd like to know like what tools i'll need, how some people have their set-ups, just like a guide to starting modeling but with conversion and kitbashing in mind.

i'd love to play the tabletop but i'm the type of person who'd like to run a couple armies or different types of armies, how would you do that as well? i see a lot of magnetic mentioned, are their like army builds that allow for different weapons, battle-gear etc. etc. ?

Hey, welcome to Dakka. Most of your questions are answered in the various forums. A lot of people run multiple armies. I think there are several Magnetising tutorials about as well. Anyway, search around and ask away. If you put a lot of these questions into the modeling forum, more people will see them and have input.
