We have all thought of it, some have sayd it outoud, some have dreamt if it. Well now is our chance to do it and in the process create a thread that any aspiring sculptors can use as a reference.

We, and when I say we , I mean it. We will start from the first step and work our way to the final outcome.
If you want to use some bits in between its fine, but this is not a conversion thread, our aim will be to create our own mini.

That sayd, first we will need an idea if what we want to create and hopefully, well I know with the help of other dakka members we will have all the help to accomplish this crazy idea of being able to create our own mini whether its fantasy or historical, 28mm or 2mm.

Any takers?

Thus far

Matthew

So if I understand this correctly, you want participants to primarily use a sculpting medium to make a unique model with maybe a couple bits used for extra details or to help flesh it out.

So kitbashes and such made from various pieces are not allowed. Yeah?

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Ya, it should be sculpting, not kitbashing, you can use what you want but it will be a reverse of the gw rules, at least 80 percent needs to be originally (originally) sculpted.

I think this would be a nice thread to see how you can use arbetry stuff ass sculpting tools asswell ad professional advice to achieve what most of us dream of..... And that is

Our own unique mini.

I'm game, but with all you've nailed down so far, I'm reading...

At the mo you've got 'let's sculpt something'. But what do we sculpt? Any particular theme or role in mind? To be honest, on Dakka, you might struggle to get takers for anything other than 'GW' and '28mm', but in any case I'd recommend starting off with something simple.
And how long do we have? If it's a '2017 challenge' do we have a year to get something done?

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

I... actually don't know. Help?

Hmm... you know what? I might just want to try this out. Things like Nurglings should be easy to start out sculpting for a noob

Sculpt what you want! This challenge will get more specific as it goes on. For now we will be getting the basics done so that future participants have a reference or a how to if you want to call it that. I personally will be attempting a model for a new tabletop game named splice where humans are spliced with animals and bugs. That says .... GO WILD let's get all the creative juices flowing!

I'd be interested in participating. Would love to attempt to sculpt a male death cult assassin or two but honestly don't know where to start and don't really have much faith in my sculpting beyond "nurglifying" models.

I'm in, haven't sculpted anything for ages. Need some practice before I start to sculpt Daemon Prince for KDK, as using those not so good looking GW version is no no and I want prince look like Chaos Lord turn to one by blood tithe rules.

Victory isn't important, but great mounds of bloody skulls. From your side, if not enemy's...

Well the first step I guess is some form of refferance, whether its your own sketch or some other point of reference, I myself still have to decide what I will be attempting.

Made this genestealer aberrant recently. The torso, carapace and right leg are fully GS/milliput sculpted. Was my first attempt at really sculpting an object rather than gap filling on conversion work.
