How much deviation is allowed when it comes to painting Tau armies? My interpretation from reading the Codex, armor can be whatever color as long as the Sept markings match the declared Sept...so red markings on whatever the heck I choose...

The standard Vior'la paint scheme is red markings on white armor...but that seems so boring...I want to paint an Urban themed army, with the armor base color being a dark grey and have medium/light grey highlights and accents...I thought I saw in the Codex some armies have variations on their armor depending on their operating environment and AOR...I have a brand new US Air Force Vallejo model air set I never got around to using which I planned on painting with...

P.S. I've never modeled 40k before but hot damn these things are tiny...I have 6 Battlesuits at the moment, I can only imagine how small the Fire Warriors are...this is gonna be interesting, lol

Tau tend to employ camo, even if it's super basic camo, such as 'one predominant color'. Don't get hung up on sept markings.
